Lurker, Can you recommend a scotch that is a ‘ peat fire in a bottle ‘.

Have always liked scotch and have been trying different brands and types. I do like the peat flavor but really have had no luck with liquor store salesmen. They really haven’t been helpful.

Recently picked up a bottle of Dahlwhinnie single malt. Wil try that this weekend. Had been drinking Oban at a local hotel bar and enjoy it.

Glen Garioch is mighty fine, as well.

Got a sampler of Scotch in a small restaurant in NYC, Laphroig was the only one I could not find a reason to like.

It tasted a bit like silage, a bit like old sweaty leather, and something a bit fishy.

I decided that somewhere in the vats at the distillery, they have Lady Godiva's saddle involved in the process.

Well, then I’ve definitely lived.

LOL. I’m not a scotch drinker but I think I picture what you’re saying.

Laphroaig, or for a slightly mellower taste, Laphroaig Cardenas.
Port Charlotte Islay is very strong peat; or Ardbeg is milder.

Here's a Scotch story for you:

Jan. 1981 I bought a bottle of Royal Salute which is Chivas Brother's 21 yr. old blend. So, it's reasonable to assume it went to cask around Nov. 1959. (turning 21 in Nov. 1980 and getting to store shelf in Jan. 1981)

Decided I'd save it for my 5th wedding anniversary (without any bride in sight).

After many years a bachelor, I married 12 Feb. 2011 (yes, today's our 9th).

As it turned out Ms. GLarry was born Nov. 1959, and in 2016 on our 5th anniversary, we did indeed break open that bottle of Royal Salute.

Really peaty ones include Talisker and Lagavullin. Either one should get you what you’re looking for.

Good luck.

The Royal Salute was as smooth as any single malt at any price, that I’ve ever had.
