EAST ST. LOUIS – The East St. Louis School Superintendent Arthur Culver announced today that Flyers cheerleaders would be banned from performing the rest of the year after some of the team members broke out into a fight with Trinity Catholic High School’s cheerleading squad.

The fight between the East St. Louis and Trinity Catholic cheerleaders happened Saturday in the Alton Shootout. The two were conducting dueling routines at center court when the melee erupted.

Sigh. If only it were that easy. The kid in question has an IEP which means he is treated as if he is handicapped. Kicking him out of school is legally next to impossible. That said, my school has successfully given long-term suspensions to kids, but for very much worse offenses—like, molesting kindergarteners. But basically that requires the cooperation of the parents.

The school also feels that two or three days of in-school suspension—isolated from their peers, required to do school work, etc. is more of a punishment than staying at home and watching TV.

I’d say the team in black and white was winning until one of their members crossed the line. The team in orange was definitely the aggressors up to that point.

This was a version of “Yo momma so fat” insults. The adults who allowed this to happen need to be removed from any further supervision of these teams.

But what really made me laugh is when it turned into a melee they guy on the speaker said, “please clear the area”.

Like that was gonna happen. Everybody stop fighting because the guy with the speaker says “please clear the area”.

I guess when you have the speaker, you feel powerful.

I concur the illegitimacy rate in 1962 was much higher, but not the rate of family formation, which was comparable. Two different things, but are correlatable. More married men then, but still a significant portion of them fathering children out of wedlock.

I didn’t say they were ‘equivalent’. I suggested that young people often naturally have aggressive, antisocial urges, and behavior like this has always expressed where culture didn’t enforce the proper training and restraints.

Maybe there are racial aspects to this, who knows. Certainly innate characteristics of a particular racial group are going to affect culture. However, it is always a chore to discuss good and bad aspects of a particular culture these days, because people are often (deliberately) misinterpreting the criticism of a culture with criticism of the race of people practicing it. Ahem.

The theme of this thread was primarily the cultural dysfunction that promotes the kind of behavior seen in the video, and your comment about (white) girls wanting to beat you up in high school seemed to be suggesting that those same white girls were behaving in a manner nearly identical to this mass brawl. That is obviously not the case, even by your own admission, and so I have no idea what your point was in bringing up those girls from your high school at all, except as some meager attempt to excuse the behavior of the girls in the video.
