They paved South Amboy,
put up a parking lot...
with a pink hotel, a boutique, and a swingin' hot spot.

It might be nice to visit, but NJ taxes with no SALT deduction will kill you if you live there.

Yeah, they really need to cut state spending to something that they can afford.

Sounds like a great place to pick up a used syringe while barefoot.

Why does New Jersey call this place Amboy? In the Philippines, it means “America’s Boy,” and is considered an insult.

from wikipedia: The land, which was called “Ompoge” by the Indians, gradually changed its name to “Emboyle”, then “Amboyle”. When the city was incorporated in 1683, settlers began to call the land “Ambo” or “Amboy Point”, and finally “Amboy.”

Is that a term used by the ‘girly boys’?

Perth Amboy was the original capital of East Jersey, which was primarily Dutch (part of the New Netherland settlement which included Manhattan); it was merged with West Jersey (many of whom were originally Swedes and Quakers) to create the British colony of New Jersey in the early 1700s.

“It might be nice to visit, but NJ taxes with no SALT deduction will kill you if you live there.”

I don’t believe this is the case at all; while the SALT cap was $10,000, I suspect many Jerseyans paying even $15,000 in property taxes are still better off under the new tax law - because the standard deduction increased to $24,000. The property taxes themselves are a problem, but most people here aren’t impacted by the SALT cap. The average property tax bill is under $10,000 anyway; the SALT cap is in the news because very wealthy people who are hurt by the SALT cap make themselves heard.

One with think with talk radio and Fox that we’d be able to get the truth out, at least once in a while. For me, other than collusion/impeachment crap, what tells me that THEY still control mainstream thought in this country is the simple fact that something like 95% of Americans are paying the same or less in federal income taxes, while 80% of Americans are convinced they’re paying more (I know, the deep blue states, like NJ, are well over 5% paying more). The Left never even tried that stunt under Reagan, much less pulled it off.

By the time of the election, NJ and NY people will have filed twice under the new law; I’d hope they can figure it out.

Why does New Jersey call this place Amboy?

Because it is on the south side of the Raritan River and Perth Amboy is on the North Side.
They are building a new Exit off the Garden State Parkway for that area.
I drive by there all the time as, I will do this morning
BTW Perth Amboy was the original Capitol of New Jersey.

I was born in Perth Amboy. South Amboy had the most bars per capita or something years ago.
