I received a speeding ticket tonight coming up hwy 7 from Ole Miss to Memphis. Since I haven’t had one in ten years or so, I found a few tings interesting:
1. The police were in the opposite lane and must have locked on without sitting on the side of the road with a radar gun. I imagine they have some new stuff that uses their speed against an oncoming car’s speed. Not hard to solve, but I’ve never run into it before. 2. Since it was at night, after I pulled over, I put on the overhead lights, rolled down the window and put my hands on the steering wheel. When the officer approached, he made sure to stay at my 8 o’clock. This is also new. 3. All he asked for was my license. No insurance and registration. I guess those are in the computer. 4.. There was no ticket book. It was a computer printout. 5. The officer was polite and all of my USNA parent and Ole Miss stickers didn’t help. I’m wondering if Marshall county offers a veteran’s discount.
We top a ridge, and there's a police car with his radar gun out pointed right at the crest of the ridge, several cars waved over to the side.
He just shook his head sadly at me as I drove by.
The classroom or online course which will remove it from your record and prevent higher insurance rates is referred to as “diversion” (I know, it’s stupid).
If it’s offered by your jurisdiction (it’s not offered by all even in a county or state), all you have to do is not get another moving violation in a year and the ticket is gone. Only catch is that you have to pay both the ticket and the fee for the “diversion”.
I hope they have it available.

By that I assume that you mean that he remained standing slightly behind you - say half a meter behind the driver's door? Presumably to place you at a disadvantage in the event that you were to attempt anything "funny?"

When Clinton was in office, Montana was threatened by FedGov, to post speed limit signs, or FedGov would withhold Montana tax allotted money for federal highways.
Montana tried to push back, but Clinton FedGov Environmental authority made it happen.
Have to dig it up, but this did happen.
Mississippi will waive the points on your license if you take the driving class and of course pay a little extra money. It’s automatically approved if you don’t have a previous violation within the last three years. You can also talk to the county attorney and many times they’ll reduce it to a seatbelt violation if you pay the full fine.
It IS all about the money, that’s all they care about.
Whatever you don’t just pay it, it’ll go on your record and if you get another the options to erase it won’t be there, you kind of go into a death spiral. Keep your record clean.
There’s also the increased insurance. It’s far better to play their games, give them their money, and keep it off your record.
Waze is hit and miss, especially in rural areas. There are not enough Wazers around.
I’m usually the one holding up traffic these days. Everybody else is in a hurry to get somewhere.

Returning to MD from Raleigh, I got a speeding ticket in N.C., 2 hours later was pulled over VA. and given another speeding ticket. Bit later when crossing over to MD was wondering if I was gonna make it 3 for 3? Didn’t...

Or...I knew you were waiting for me so I got here as fast as I could.
When the cop asks you “do you know how fast you were going”” exaggerate the speed to the high side. Tell him 80, 90 MPH. Then he comes back with “oh no you weren’t gong that fast!” See, now you have him on your side going in the right direction.
The National Maximum Speed Law, which established the Double Nickel was weakened by legislation passed during the Reagan era but not completely repealed until 1995.
A few months ago I passed a cop car parked perpendicular to the highway in the emergency lane. The car was from a city well known for setting up speed traps in sections of the highway located in their jurisdiction. It was nighttime with a fair amount of traffic including 18-wheelers across 5-6 lanes. I was in the far left lane but one, and within a minute of passing the cop, I saw blue lights in my rear view mirror. Since I believe I had been going 5-8 miles over the speed limit (I consciously avoid reaching 10 miles over the limit), I started moving to right since I thought he was coming after me. I ended up on the other side of an 18-wheeler, and the cop car ended up passing me. Watching the blue lights, I never saw him exit or pull anyone else over. He must have turned his lights off at some point. If he was after me, I think he lost me in the dark and in traffic.
