How Schumer might get the last laugh on impeachment trial (not really)
Politico ^ | 1/13/20 | BURGESS EVERETT, MARIANNE LEVINE

Chuck Schumer lost the first impeachment trial battle to Mitch McConnell. But the Democratic leader and his party insist they can still win the war.

While Senate Majority Leader McConnell has locked up enough Republican votes to ignore demands for a bipartisan framework for President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial, his Democratic counterpart is readying a counteroffensive. Schumer will force a series of votes designed to squeeze vulnerable Republicans and harm them on the campaign trail if they side with Trump.

Democrats argue the half-dozen at-risk GOP senators will need some daylight between them and Trump to get reelected. And if they vote against Schumer’s motions to hear new evidence and witness testimony, they’ll be seen as Trump sycophants - undermining their bids and boosting Schumer’s odds of becoming majority leader.

Support for obtaining new documents at the trial is “even stronger than we thought, with large numbers of Republicans supporting it,” Schumer (D-N.Y.) said in an interview. “And when you go against what the American people feel strongly about, on an issue they’re paying attention to, it’s not a good idea.”

Use the Schiffty 'bipartisan' rules and tell Chuckles to sit down and shaddap. It's gone from Russia to - let's see how much damage can be done to the other side. This is getting old.

I’m glad Politico admits it’s all a joke.

Goofy sleestack Schumer is a powerless knob. There are a number of Democrat Senators who are in the same boat and they won’t appreciate his sniveling efforts.

The media portrays impeachment in the way most favorable to the Dems.

Fact: House “Dems’ impeachment articles and evidence are not good.”
Media: “Well, the Senate should do the job the House didn’t!”.

IDK how it will play with the public. But without the media’s urgent assistance the Dems would be laughed at by the public.

I wonder if it is a joke that McConnell is going to expose the dozen or so Senate Demos who took contributions from the Bidens and then demand that they recuse themselves from the impeachment trial ...

What the American people "feel strongly about" is how feed up they are with the never ending, shape shifting, childish Trump Derangement syndrome fake impeachment circus.

There are very real issues that require the attention of Congress and ChuckyNan's freak show with nadless and schitt is only burning time and taxpayer money.

Actually, in SanFranNan's Bizzaro World, it is still Russia and Putin. In her most recent talk, she returned to this Russia 2016 Election interference trope, an old hack citing an old hack!

Didn’t snag the link but read an article with Pelosi saying the impeachment hurt Trump. Tee hee, all the comments centered around the impeachment handed Trump the win in 2020. ALL.

"Bipartisan" means highly favoring the Democrats.

It is important to hold the Senate. With both houses of Congress in 'Rat hands, it would be much more difficult for Trump in his second term, notably with appointments and confirmations. So the trial needs to held in a way that seems appropriate to the 20% of the population which is not strongly committed to one party or the other. If that happens the Republicans should be able to hold on to the Senate.

Trump is trouncing the DNC in money-raising. Politico’s calculus is not taking that into account. Trump will not spend very much campaigning for himself since his re-election is all but assured. Where will he spend all that money if not on his own campaign — thaaaat’s right — it will be spent on Senate and Congressional campaigns.

Schumer thinks he has a lever. But it’ll just snap when his bluff gets called.
