Rand Paul on Graham: "Sad" When People Use "Drape Of Patriotism" To Question Patriotism Of Others
RCP Video ^ | 1-9-2020 | Ian Schwartz

Posted on 01/09/2020 7:58:44 AM PST by Sir Napsalot

In an interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer, Sen. Rand Paul said the only way you can stop people who believe the president has the ultimate authority on war like Lindsey Graham is defunding a war. Paul was responding to Graham's accusation that he "empowering the enemy" by playing games with the "unconstitutional" War Powers Act. Paul called the Trump administration's reasoning for the Soleimani strike an "insult to the constitution."

"I think it's sad when people have this fake sort of drape of patriotism, and anybody that disagrees with them is not a patriot," Paul said Wednesday. "For him to insult and say that somehow we're not as patriotic as he is, he hasn't even read the history of the Constitution. The Constitution specifically says that the war-making power is -- resides in Congress."

"He believes in this unitary theory of the executive, that presidents can do whatever they want," Paul continued. "The only way you can stop them is by defunding a war. That's not what our founding fathers said. It's not what the Constitution says. And he insults the Constitution, our founding fathers and what we do stand for in this republic by making light of it and accusing people of lacking patriotism."

Faux outrage, like a leftist snowflake. I personally question Paul's own judgement. He's an unreliable ally, and at his worst, he'd rather go to CNN to tear down his own side. Sad little puny guy.

Did Rand Paul ever make any noise under Obama's 8 year?

I recall he wanted to run for potus, he's been beaten up by his neighbor, and not too much else.

He was the first to say that Bill clinton’s rapes SHOULD be part of the 2016 race discourse..

He has made good comments in the past that I agreed with.

He’s pretty consistent with his stand on Presidential powers.

I didn’t say I agreed with all of them.

But he believes in what he says, right or not.

World on fire, but it’s all about poor Rand, as usual.

"The Constitution specifically says that the war-making power is -- resides in Congress."

Define "war". The Commander in Chief used the military very briefly. We are not mobilizing for a war with Iran. War Powers Act lets the President use his judgment for 90 days before going to Congress.

Thank Rand!!

Nothing like being in a raging battle with the left and one of your own standing behind you taking shots at you...Yeah, you’re helping. Hey Rand, if you didn’t say anything you could still consider yourself right you know.

Remember this Rand, “friendly fire, isn’t!”

Rand and his ilk were promising WW3 last week. Instead of admitting they were wrong they just pivot like Democrats and continue attacking POTUS.

Rand is correct. Linda Graham was big pals with ISIS, hell there are photos of it. And now for Graham to question Rand’s patriotism? Laughable.

Yeah, and often.

Lindsey Graham, super patriot, neocon cohort of McCain and sunni terrorists.

Rand is actually little different than McCain. Both are/were preening beltway careerists most interested in maintaining their maverick brand.

“He’s pretty consistent with his stand on Presidential powers”

Yep. People here seem to forget that President Trump is surrounded by neocons who will throw him under the bus at first opportunity. And I include Pence, Pompeo, Graham, Rubio and many others in this.

I bet at least some R Senators voted for Hillary.

People here were all supportive of the invasion of Iraq and look where that got us.

Rand and China Mitch are my Senators. If Rand wanted PR for his opinion on Iran then he is foolish to have done so as a Senator of the Commonwealth.

BTW, Rand is not foolish, he says what he believes and he is a good Senator, but I do not and would not support Rand for POTUS due to his Libertarian slant.

Personally I wouldn't give you a wooden nickel for Rand Paul or for Lindsey Grahamesty but if pushed to say who I think is worse of the two I think Rand Paul is not a very loyal American and is not looking out for people like myself or my best interests, the typical average American citizen. The Republican Party nor President Trump can rely on or count on Paul to support their causes or issues as he likes playing the lone wolf card like his old buddy Juan McCaniac loved to do.

Grahamesty on the other hand is only marginally better but that loyalty does come with a price gtag these days unfortunately. This is just IMHO.

"I think it's sad when people have this fake sort of drape of patriotism, and anybody that disagrees with them is not a patriot," Paul said Wednesday.

Irony alert: That's exactly what Pelosi 'tried' to do in this morning's press conference/statement. Talking stack of bullshit.

Hey Rand.

What was it when your father inisted that troops using armored bulldozers and tanks with plow attachments to clear trenchlines in the first Gulf War was tantamount to a war crime?

I have respect for Rand Paul as a senator. Everyday he fights for our individual freedoms. But he seems incapable of freeing himself from his father’s faulty foreign policy philosophy. He supports Trump most of the time but nobody should be surprised when Rand Paul opposes any kind of military operation abroad.
