Is the standard of truth when being interviewed by the FBI different?

Is the standard of truth when being interviewed by the FBI, different from other agencies? Other levels of law enforcement?

Are you allowed to lie to the local police, or, if not, how do the penalties differ?

If things are weighted toward the FBI to a draconian extent, is this a hold-over from HUAC days?

I smelled a rat when I read that Hoover was supposed to be gay. It turns out, the guy who knew him best, Deke (Cartha) DeLoach, could not only prove that it was a lie, but he had the goods on the woman reporter who made it all up.

Beca;use of what we’ve learned about the FBI’s tactics during all of this, I would never say anything at all to any FBI interviewer except “I want my lawyer”. Not one peep besides that.

Yes it is. The FBI is allowed to interrogate you without a lawyer present, you can’t record the meeting, and then they can write up whatever they want as your ‘testimony’ afterwards so they can frame you up.

It’s time to reform the FBI or do away with it.

One or the other.

I would give them the “Neo to Agent Smith” routine

...and to add to that, they do not have to turn over their notes of the interview, meaning they can say whatever they want to say at trial and you cannot use their own notes to show they are not testifying truthfully.

What’s really weird is that you can’t lie to them because it is against the law.

But they can lie to you and it is legal.

Seems funny to me that a citizen has less legal rights than his employees.????

What you said is only true if you let them do such things.

Always ask for your lawyer always record such interview.

By doing so they well not do one.

To bad for them good for you.

Yeah, that’s completely unacceptable. The boss doesn’t have less rights than the servant.

the standard of truth was tossed out the window long ago when politicians weren’t held to the same standards in truth in advertisement laws that private enterprise must adhere to...

In most jurisdictions lying to any LEO who is conducting an investigation is considered obstruction of justice or interfering with an investigation. If you are being investigated, by state or feds, you NEVER give a statement without first consulting an attorney. Ever.

The media pushes all kinds of things which are not true.

They have pushed them to the extent that nearly everyone believes.

It depends on where ya live. In the swamp, or not in the swamp.

It's still a feudal system where nobility makes up the rules as they wish.

Clearly, the FBI needs to be busted up and reformed at this point, and this govt can’t be trusted with anything as powerful as the FISA courts either.

Any law enforcement entity can interrogate you without a lawyer present. However, when you say you want a lawyer present, FBI, or any other law enforcement entity are obligated to honor that request and cease interrogation.

You have the right to remain silent, even with the FBI.

While you cannot record with the FBI, you are allowed to take notes. At least that is my understanding. I think the FBI should be required to record all interrogations. That should be instituted as a requirement, immediately, in my opinion. Especially now with the shenanigans they have been exposed as pulling.

If PDJT can get this changed, it will be one of his greatest long-lasting accomplishments. In the digital age, there is no excuse for not having time-stamped videos of all LEO interviews, including the FBI. The only reason for the “notes” method is so that the FBI can lie in them or accuse you of lying later.

Anyone who would talk to any FBI agent without a lawyer present has not been paying attention. Years ago, and maybe still, FBI agents talked to present and former neighbors, colleagues, etc when vetting someone for a security clearance. I wonder how this is going in the era of understandable distrust of the FBI.
