These shepherds were chosen to have the Angel of the Lord appear to them with a specific sign from God.
These were no ordinary shepherds. They were keepers of the sacrificial lambs used in the Temple.
To make sure the lambs were without blemish, they would wrap them in swaddling clothes.
Thus these shepherds recognized and understood the significance of the Angel’s message to them.
It’s so cool how every time you read or hear a Bible quote you learn something new. Like when the Angel says “I bring you good tidings of great joy” It’s not only great joy.
