Customers at an Olive Garden in Kennewick, Washington, are treated to the usual breadsticks, salad and pasta, but when it's someone's birthday, they're also treated to something extra special: a serenade from server Alphonso Nichols
One of the hostesses at Macaroni Grill in Knoxville was like that too. She’s not there any more. I think she was studying opera at the University of Tennessee...very beautiful singing voice...she sang happy birthday in Italian on request:
Tanti auguri a te,
Tanti auguri a te,
Tanti auguri,
Tanti auguri,
Tanti auguri a te.
Which actually means “So many wishes to you” but it does fit the meter.
I live in Alabama. Years ago I was on business in Norfolk, VA. I pulled in early in the evening and I went to the McArthur Mall to find something to eat. I ended up at an Italian restaurant, started sipping a glass of wine and I noticed a young person playing at a grand piano in the middle of the dining area. In a few minutes, I noticed a young lady singing a Broadway type song at the piano. Another followed her, and then I realized the performers were ALL waiters and waitresses. They were fantastic! Never before or since have I been to a place like that . . . very entertaining.
I have connections to a family that lives in the area and understand that the restaurant has been closed for several years. Glad I had the experience.
Great voice!
Wow! That gentleman is awesome!
And if it weren’t for the bleeping minimum wage, Olive Garden might be able to pay that guy more in the event he gets a better offer.
Many years ago, I was having a birthday dinner in a small Thai restaurant in Honolulu. When the waiter brought my complimentary birthday dessert, Jim Nabors got up from the next booth and sang Happy Birthday.
Very nice!
I worked at a Bar/Restaurant back in Texas called The Thirsty Turtle.
On Friday and Saturday Nights had Karaoke with the usual gambit of Not Bad, Heard Better, Somebody stick my head in a Bucket of Mud till its over, WOW!!! and then there was one of the Waitresses, a Redhead from LA (Louisiana) that was in the wrong profession.
She sang Amazing Grace and would bring the House Down every time. She seriously should have been in the Vocals biz, not waiting tables.
Also did other songs.
That place had a cheap crappy system as well. During the weekday if there were New Customers that were settled and served then She would be on the Closed Section doing Table Charging (rolling flatware, filling Condiments, etc.) and bust out with it not using the sound system.
Most would stop eating until She was done and Applaud, some even a Standing Ovation.
When there was a Macaroni Grill near us, we had a waitress who sang that as well. Once she sang one of Cherubino’s arias from Figaro at our table. I miss that restaurant.
