Statements just hit the wires in the past 15 minutes
Attorney General Bill Barr released a statement on Monday that undermined the Department of Justice Inspector Generals report that the FBI had sufficient evidence to investigate the Trump campaign.
The Inspector Generals report now makes clear that the FBI launched an intrusive investigation of a U.S. presidential campaign on the thinnest of suspicions that, in my view, were insufficient to justify the steps taken.
It is also clear that, from its inception, the evidence produced by the investigation was consistently exculpatory.
U.S. Attorney John Durham, whom Barr had appointed to investigate the Russia probe, boosted the attorney generals claim, saying his office had told Barr that we do not agree with some of the reports conclusions as to predication and how the FBI case was opened.
William Barrs statement below:
Nothing is more important than the credibility and integrity of the FBI and the Department of Justice. That is why we must hold our investigators and prosecutors to the highest ethical and professional standards. The Inspector Generals investigation has provided critical transparency and accountability, and his work is a credit to the Department of Justice. I would like to thank the Inspector General and his team.
Nevertheless, the investigation and surveillance was pushed forward for the duration of the campaign and deep into President Trumps administration. In the rush to obtain and maintain FISA surveillance of Trump campaign associates, FBI officials misled the FISA court, omitted critical exculpatory facts from their filings, and suppressed or ignored information negating the reliability of their principal source. The Inspector General found the explanations given for these actions unsatisfactory. While most of the misconduct identified by the Inspector General was committed in 2016 and 2017 by a small group of now-former FBI officials, the malfeasance and misfeasance detailed in the Inspector Generals report reflects a clear abuse of the FISA process.
FISA is an essential tool for the protection of the safety of the American people. The Department of Justice and the FBI are committed to taking whatever steps are necessary to rectify the abuses that occurred and to ensure the integrity of the FISA process going forward.
No one is more dismayed about the handling of these FISA applications than Director Wray. I have full confidence in Director Wray and his team at the FBI, as well as the thousands of dedicated line agents who work tirelessly to protect our country. I thank the Director for the comprehensive set of proposed reforms he is announcing today, and I look forward to working with him to implement these and any other appropriate measures.
With respect to DOJ personnel discussed in the report, the Department will follow all appropriate processes and procedures, including as to any potential disciplinary action.
John Durhams full statement:
I have the utmost respect for the mission of the Office of Inspector General and the comprehensive work that went into the report prepared by Mr. Horowitz and his staff. However, our investigation is not limited to developing information from within component parts of the Justice Department. Our investigation has included developing information from other persons and entities, both in the U.S. and outside of the U.S. Based on the evidence collected to date, and while our investigation is ongoing, last month we advised the Inspector General that we do not agree with some of the reports conclusions as to predication and how the FBI case was opened.
Bill Barr is deeply unhappy with the IG report, obviously. Wow. pic.twitter.com/3ArKaGBWwL

POPCORN TIME
I’m holding the popcorn for when something actually happens.
Isnt Obamas behavior exactly what they are impeaching Trump for?
Barr will let it all happen and cover for the criminals.
Whoa! Watch out.
Someone's going to get a sternly worded letter of reprimand added to their personnel folder.
This Barr certainly is one hard-nosed hombre, all right. (do I need a sarcasm tag here?)
Deeds not words Mr Barr. There are plenty of naysayers around here who will be more than happy to be proven wrong if you step up to the plate! That remains to be seen.
All over the Media right now:
FBI was not biased and election probe of Trump campaign was justified.
Th-Th-Th-That’s all folks.....
You beat me to it and you’re 1000000000000000% right.
Look for a mass casualty event some time in the near future, as sick as that sounds, or possibly some type of event overseas with Iran or North Korea. Gotta do something to take our attention away from this. If it is a mass casualty event, in advance, I’m heartbroken for the innocent lives lost to protect the scum in DC.
Yep, so far all we get is talk blah blah blah and nothing happens.
Just like the two DOJ lawyers that prosecuted Ted Stevens. Got caught lying and withholding evidence.
They were punished and suspended.
Sued, go their time back and got back pay. And never had to answer for their crimes.
Looks like a sternly worded letter.
Boy are they in trouble!
So what is Barr going to do about it other than issue blistering responses?
Rank and Vile FBI Director Christopher Wray Releases Pathetic Letter Following Highly Critical FISA Report
FBI Director Christopher Wray releases a letter submitted to U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr after the IG Horowitz findings of wrongdoing within the FBI FISA process:
” Dear Inspector General Horowitz:
Thank you for the opportunity to respond to the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) Report titled, Review of Four FISA Applications and Other Aspects of the FBIs Crossfire Hurricane Investigation (Report).
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) appreciates the OIGs crucial independent oversight role and the thoroughness and professionalism your office brought to this work. The Reports findings and recommendations represent constructive criticism that will make us stronger as an organization.
We also appreciate the Reports recognition that the FBI cooperated fully with this review and provided broad and timely access to all information requested by the OIG, including highly classified and sensitive material involving national security.
The Report concludes that the FBIs Crossfire Hurricane investigation and related investigations of certain individuals were opened in 2016 for an authorized purpose and with adequate factual predication.”
The Horowitz IG report was limited to information within the DOJ, the investigation that Barr tasked Durham with, covers everything Russia related. Would it be counter productive for Barr o criticize people based n a rather limited IG report...yes
