The City Council of Charlottesville, Virginia has voted to remove a statue of Meriwether Lewis, William Clark and Sacagawea, their Shoshone interpreter, from a street in the city:

The city council voted to direct city staff to create a plan for the removal of the West Main Street statue commemorating the Lewis and Clark expedition during a work session Friday. *** At the work session, councilors discussed the statue with Native Americans and some of Sacagawea’s descendants, who traveled to Charlottesville from Idaho.

Rose Ann Abrahamson, a descendant of Sacagawea and a Shoshone-Bannock woman, said she has seen nearly every depiction of her ancestor in the country.

“This statue in Charlottesville was the worst we have ever seen,” she said.

To revise history you have to include destroying it.

The native American woman who accompanied Lewis and Clark was a brave and resourceful woman. Native Americans have nothing about her to be ashamed of, including her assistance to Lewis and Clark. Lewis and Clark mapped this continent as none before them had done. It was a feat we all can be proud of.

It’s only happening in counties governed by American-hating RATS.

I lived in Charlottesville from 1979-82. It was such a charming place then. I used to enjoy sitting in Lee Park, walking the pedestrian mall, and driving up to visit Monticello. In those days, local residents could visit for free. So sad to see what has happened to this lovely historical area.

The Iwo Jima memorial is iconic of American greatness … the very thing at which leftist lash out.

Fine. Melt the statue and erase her from all of history. Does that work for the relatives?

She deserves recognition. It was not her expedition but she really did probably save the expedition especially because her Brother supplied horses to them.

She had a baby on the way and the men all loved him, said he was unusually cute. Her French husband turned out to be an excellent cook. They particularly liked a sausage he made using elk intestines.

I read an article yesterday that showed the farting politicians of the left in North Carolina removing American statues at night under the cover of darkness. I guess the leftwing elitists do not want to “trigger” the “ignorant peons.”

I agree...who knew what she really looked like ?
sliding a little here...
It’s actually The United States Marine Corps War Memorial
If you look and compare the monument to the iconic photo\films....they don’t match so good
so yeah, let’s tear it down.

Charbonneau was Sacajawea’s husband. I believe he was a black French Canadian.

Not only did she cooperate, she correctly foresaw that her son would enjoy a better life if he grew up white instead of Indian.

As an interesting aside, when Ecuador adopted the US dollar as their currency, we shipped down a bunch of Sacagawea dollars for them to use. They thought it was great that we made a coin with an Ecuadorian Indian woman on it for them to use
