No, they largely have been taught that the best of all worlds is both socialism and capitalism—as they believe Europe has. They think of our country as one-sidedly capitalist and so that they should vote socialist until we become more balanced.
That is what most so-called young “socialist” voters in the US think.
It’s not that they are dumb—they are ignorant. They’ve never been taught the truth.
Capitalism is where everyone works together on common goals, and everyone profits in proportion to how much they contribute. Socialism is where the masses are enslaved to enrich the elites. The fact that so many millennials do not understand this is our fault, the Baby Boomers' fault. We never really taught them what socialism is.
There is a small contigent of millennials who do understand socialism and are perfectly willing to commit the mass murders necessary to enforce it. I suppose they delude themselves into thinking they will be among the rich elite, rather than the destitute masses. The basement dwellers have no clue.
They’re a product of education.
Good kids joined the Hitler Youth. It was not their fault. It was the fault of their parents and their society.
We have allowed liberals to take over the education of our children.
The fault lies with us.

Calling today’s young socialists “dumb” is as mistaken and as counterproductive as Hillary calling decent people “deplorable”. Those who think socialism is worth a try are victims of systematic propaganda who have never had sufficient information to learn the truth. We should be teaching them and communicating with them, not labeling them.

Decent people need our own Long March through the Institutions, where productive, patriotic Americans infiltrate our schools, our universities, the press, and even the FBI and CIA.
Real Americans prefer productive jobs to government work, but protecting freedom is the most productive thing we can do. Don’t retire; get a job teaching public school. Don’t retire, teach as an adjunct professor. Don’t retire, take a job with your local newspaper. Engineer/Analyst/manager/military? Check out job openings with the FBI/CIA.
All of this talk of Socialism and Progressivism and leftism is nothing but communism. Even the Democrats are communist now. It’s time to call a spade a spade. From the living room to the TV personality to the politicians, call it what it is. The Rats don’t even pretend anymore. They spout off communist ideals all the time now.

I think you really nail it with this. The breakdown of the family may really have more to do with it all than we think. This generation has witnessed so much discord in the family and likely doesn’t trust a single thing any of us have to teach them. They are hell bound on making their own way ... and the only way to have them learn is to let them.

As for the Millenials, I wonder if all the talk about forgiving student loans is a major incentive.
IMHo, the majority of them don't even care about being in the rich elite as long as they can murder or abuse people who they feel have offended them or that they've been jealous of and get a pat on the head for doing so.
