Turn the Lights back On-THEN I'LL SHUT UP!

Posted on 10/09/2019 9:05:12 AM PDT by DIRTYSECRET

Just been informed the power is off in the Bay Area(Ca). Is this a 3rd world country? Is the power company(PGE) trying to avoid another entire town burning down again? Unacceptable. Make it political. This is the richest country in the world. No excuses.

“Paying fines” under these circumstances translates to Paying graft.

That brush they should be clearing would be perfect for a wood fired power plant. There would be an endless supply of fuel.

Who’s going to pay for all the food in the freezer at home, at restaurants and grocery stores? Who’s going to be responsible when EMS can’t be called? Who’s going to be monitoring all the signal lights in town? Who’s going to prop up businesses that need the power to stay open? Who’s going to monitor everywhere that has the security alarms and cameras turned off? How long until the generators run out of gas that operate life sustaining machines at hospitals and nursing homes and home care? No gas can be pumped. No one can go to work or school and no one can buy food or anything else.

Yeah, 5 days is sooooooo smart. We really should start that border wall on the east side of Kalifornica.

They do not have the permission to trim those trees back. They would LOVE to be able to do that!!!

PG&E owns 125,000 miles of electric lines.

That’s a LOT of clearing and maintenance.

Much of it is old and of questionable reliability.

I would rather see it shut off for a week than start another inferno.

Didn’t California make small gas engines illegal? Do they make battery powered generators?

Solar?? To at least run a few small devices??

This is just horrible.

How much warning did everyone get?

People outside of CA and nitwits inside do not do research... The utilities simply cannot tmr...they have to be given PERMISSION to trim.

And cell phones. How are they even going to find service when cell towers aren’t operating. Sheer panic!!!

How about they shut the power off for Beverly Hills and Studio City for 5 minutes and see what happens.

“We really should start that border wall on the east side of Kalifornica.”

Go ahead. See how that works out for you.

We’ll be fine here.

After the Wine country fires where the uncleared tree lines whipped in the winds and caused fires, the Utilities were sued and courts allowed judgements along the lines where property owners, governments and envirornmental nuts would not allow them to clear limbs and brush or allow them increased rates to bury underground as we do in Arizona in many areas prone to this problem.

They have now chosen to shut down power when high winds may cause damage.

The danger period shouldn’t last for more than a couple days for most ,, I would hope that the most critical areas needing attention are at least identified and prioritized for touchup work.

While it is a gargantuan task, PG&E should know where they’re at greatest risk and already taken steps to address them near and long term.

That is , of course, if the CPUC approves, the whineycRat climate activists doesn’t sue like usual .. we all know the drill.

And then , there are dead trees and brush like never before.. left to die, dry out and become fueling fodder for a spark from anything..

The trick is leaving as few people in the dark for as short a time as possible. That is a tough line to dance around.

Too bad we didn’t have a state legislature or regulatory agencies that had it on their list of things to get done. Now.. or at least start. Some of us do remember the energy fiascos of not so long ago and who drove them and this state down this road.

““Want the power back on?”

VOTE TRUMP!”

~~~~~~~~~
Ludicrous.
It will take 20-30 years to fix this mess.
Not ludicrous with Trump. He can fix it under budget and ahead of schedule!!
There are solar generators but they run several thousand dollars.
PG (they’re going to have to earn back the “&E” part) has failed in their two primary responsibilities. PG has failed in their primary business responsibility to provide reliable, contracted electrical service to their customers. PG has also failed —and with these current blackouts continues to fail — in their primary ethical responsibility to the citizens of California to ensure their operations (or their failure to perform those operations) do no harm to human health and the environment.
But rather than focusing their considerable resources (time and money; technical expertise) to address their primary business responsibility failure (which would also help address their primary ethical responsibility failure), PG has instead decided to blame the weather and trees, neither of which has changed much at all since electricity was discovered!
It seems to me that PG would rather blame things they have no control over than do the hard work of solving the technical problems with their systems and operations.
It’d be a start. It would take Trump all of 2 seconds to sign a bill ordering/allowing the brush to be cut.
“The danger period shouldn’t last for more than a couple days for most”
They are required to visually inspect every foot of line prior to re-energizing the line.
Can’t turn it back on until they are sure there are no lines down, or trees/branches across the lines.
Some areas will be without power for a week, at least.
By danger period, I mean when the winds are whupped up and gusty. After that passes, I know a few more days of inspection are mandated.
I hear they have 35 helis standing by to participate and a small army of inspection crews.
The price for living on grid.
