VIDEO: What Are YOUR Drink Suggestions for My Caribbean Cruise?

VIDEO

On November 8, my wife and I sail on the Steven Kane Radio Cruise to the Caribbean on the Celebrity Silhouette for six days. I upgraded my drink package so I will be able to drink pretty much any type of liquor I want. I am treating this cruise as sort of a Booze U in which I will educate myself in new drinks. Therefore I am looking for your suggestions in the comments as to what drinks I should try.

When my cruise is over, I will upload some videos of my drink reviews. Hopefully you will be able to understand them because my speech could be quite slurred.

So go ahead and suggest away!!!

Daquiri's are another Cuban invention. You can make them dozens of different ways by changing fruit; strawberry. mango, citrus, blackberry, banana... You could do a whole day and never have the same drink twice.

1 1/2 ounces light rum
3/4 ounce lime juice (fresh)
1/4 ounce simple syrup
Fruit, Ice, Blender!

With drink packages, upgraded or not ... if you board ship on Saturday the idea is to be money ahead by the following Tuesday. Achieving that will require some serious elbow bending.

It's a six day cruise. Oh, and for us Steve Kane Radio Show cruise folks, we start off with a party on deck before the ship even leaves port. So that's when my educational drinking begins.

only sealed bottle water. Nothing from any ship tap.

2.) stay away from ship’s outer railing if drinking to any excess. people have been robbed and tossed right over. No cruise company wants that known.

3.) think - we all live in a yellow submarine.

4.) single malt.... neat.

5.) the icemaker.... makes ice from other than bottled water.

6) similar advice to Mexican travellers as to the iced buffets and the water/salmonella there.

Royal Caribbean’s all-you-can-drink package is $55 a day. Mixed drinks are 12-14 bucks each, a beer is eight, a Diet Coke is four (unlimited soft drinks are $25 per day), oh, and wi-fi access is $29 daily. This was on an Alaska cruise.

I went dark and stayed sober for a week for the first time in years. Drank nothing but coffee & water. Jogged & walked on deck most of the cruise; one should do on a ship only those things that can be done only on a ship.

Asked about a tour of the engine room and bridge. That would have been $89. They snapped more photos than a White House presser. Didn’t ask the cost; what’s an iPhone for?

Headed off for a week on the beach. That’s all the ocean I need.

;^)

Gin sours, with an abundance of ice. Don’t worry...they tend to use cheap and weak gin....so you can drink this all-day long.

Consider putting “drinks” into 2 categories; mixed drinks and straight liquors/beers/wines.

One of the nice things about a drink package is being able to have premium wines with dinner (or even lunch, though that might make you tired).

Trying new and expensive bourbons, scotches, etc. neat or with very little ice is a great way to try them before you buy them. I’d suggest you do that sort of tasting before drinking anything else. Your taste buds will appreciate it.

For mixed drinks I’d suggest staying away from sugary drinks, especially those with simple syrup. Sugar will give you a worse hangover after drinking than the booze alone.

If you discipline yourself to one drink then one water you will enjoy your liquor MUCH longer and with less bad effects.

Celebrity is a great line. I was on a ship that had a frozen martini bar. The bar itself was frozen, not the drinks; it was made of ice. The bartender was not just good at mixing drinks, he was entertaining and funny. My wife and I spent a good amount of time there!

Have you tried “43” (Spanish liquor made from 43 spices), almost tastes like Kahlua. High end Mexican steak houses serve it over flaked ice and a shot of double Espresso as an aperitif. It is now a standard throughout Baja.

Royal Caribbean’s all-you-can-drink package is $55 a day.

They know how to make sure you can't monetarily out drink them.

The package doesn't include an 18% gratuity and :
Royal Carribean- Any guest wishing to purchase an alcoholic beverage package must do so for all guests of legal drinking age in the same stateroom, for sailings on or after December 31st, 2017.
