Delta Air Lines updates policy and continues pit bull ban following DOT guidance.
Delta's Policy Update Atlanta, GA - On September 23, 2019 Delta responded to Department of Transportation (DOT) final guidance regarding service animals that was issued on August 8. "Effective immediately, Delta is discontinuing its 8-hour flight limit for emotional support animals (ESAs)," states Delta's announcement. Delta is continuing its ban on pit bulls as service and support animals that it began in July 2018 in order to "protect the airlines employees, customers and trained service animals."
Following a sharp increase in onboard animal incidents and attacks, Delta instituted its ban on pit bulls in 2018, to protect the airlines employees, customers and trained service animals. Pit bulls account for less than 5 percent of the overall dog population but 37.5 percent of vicious dog attacks. Understanding this risk, Delta has not come to a solution for allowing pit bulls onboard that satisfies its own rigorous safety requirements.
"We will never compromise on safety, and we will do what is right for the health and safety of our customers and employees," said John Laughter, Senior Vice President Corporate Safety, Security and Compliance. "We continue to work with the DOT to find solutions that support the rights of customers who have legitimate needs to travel with trained animals." - Delta Air Lines, September 23, 2019

But they still allow horses?
That was American Airlines

Good. They’re nasty and dangerous animals. Ok, time to bring my pet lion then..
I may get attacked for saying this, but, if you need an emotional support horse or peacock or pet pig for support, maybe you shouldn’t be flying on an airplane in the first place. If your emotional state is that fragile, maybe you shouldn’t travel out of your comfort zone.
Just checked. Delta recognizes only cats, dogs, and miniature horses as ESAs.
But trapped on an 8+ hour flight with a miniature horse?!?
Won’t fly Delta again.
Get rid of all the animals on board flights with the exception of certified service dogs. No cats, no teacup poodles, nor any other strange animal. Want to bring it along, fine. But it goes down in the cargo hold.
If you issues that severe that you need some animal to keep you calm, you probably shouldn’t be around other people in a very confined space.
Same for people with allergies. If your allergies are that severe, you probably shouldn’t fly either.
From the article at:

§ 382.117(f) “You are never required to accommodate certain unusual service animals (e.g., snakes, other reptiles, ferrets, rodents, and spiders) as service animals in the cabin. With respect to all other animals, including unusual or exotic animals that are presented as service animals (e.g., miniature horses, pigs, monkeys), as a carrier you must determine whether any factors preclude their traveling in the cabin as service animals (e.g., whether the animal is too large or heavy to be accommodated in the cabin, whether the animal would pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others, whether it would cause a significant disruption of cabin service, whether it would be prohibited from entering a foreign country that is the flight’s destination).2 If no such factors preclude the animal from traveling in the cabin...” - 14 CFR § 382.117(f)
“Of course that wouldn’t include animals for the blind, the deaf or certain other *physical* ailments. “
Service animals
Nothing larger than a hamster. In a cage. A small cage.
Why can’t they just drink heavily like normal people?
Yes.
I wonder what considerations are in place for those allergic to animals.
“Why cant they just drink heavily like normal people?”
LOL
Airlines tell passengers with allergies to call ahead so that they can be separated from anyone travelling with a problematic animal.
If an allergic passenger is seated near one anyway, there’s an attempt to move the allergic passenger further away.
If that doesn’t work, the allergic passenger is rebooked.
Really makes you wanna fly, eh?
Delta hasn’t exhibited intelligence in many, many years.
WINNAHHHHH !
Can I bring my emotional support bottle on the plane?
I’d ban all of them, way too many people abuse it. If you’re that whacko about bringing your comfort-pet, drive your frickin’ car. I am really sick of these people and I don’t believe for a minute that they really need that animal that bad. Way too many people using it as a dodge have ruined it for everybody. Ban all animals from restaurants and airplanes and ban all pit bulls from the earth, that’s how you solve that problem.
When I hear "service animals" I think "emotional support". Unless I misread this that was the focus here.
