No kidding. I would say that is the youngest limestone ever studied (I am a Geologist).
“they couldve stripped him of his rights as a Jew. “
Not exactly. He’d be a mamzer, and thus not entitled to be married or serve in a religious function, but other than that he’d be OK.
It was the private property of a man who donated it. The Romans' part was to send guards to make sure no one stole the body to fake a resurrection claim by Jesus' followers. The corpse belonging to God, the guards and the stone posed no barrier. See post 3 for the historial note about the owner.
So, they waited 300 years to bury Jesus?
Why would Lot be buried in Jerusalem? The last we hear of him he was living in a cave near Zoar, which seems to have been near the southern end of the Dead Sea, a long way from Jerusalem.
Three days, to be exact.
It is the resurrection not the Tomb that is important. G-d knows which Tomb it was/is and G-d knows it should not matter to us. Don’t bother yourselves about it.
Thanks for goysplaining Judaism to a guy raised Jewish!
Assuming (as most Jews assume and I was taught as a kid) that the father was the Roman Centurion Pantera who slept with a betrothed (albeit allegedly not consummated) Jewish woman, Jesus would be a mamzer.
Now, it is correct that some believe that the union of TWO Jews in an illicit relationship is necessary to create a mamzer, but that is not the generally-accepted definition.
Most only require the woman to be married or betrothed.
“All that was necessary for a halachically sound marriage was the exchange of an item of some value (but it could even be a coin of small denomination), two witnesses, and intent. “
That hasn’t changed.
Go watch Shtisel on Netflix. Major plot point.
You are correct.
Nothing has changed, although such impromptu ceremonies are frowned upon in most communities. Nonetheless, they are still binding.
Shtisel is an excellent show. I grew up in Gush Katif, but had lots of friends in Bnei Brak. It’s one of the few modern shows Haradim watch generally.
I don’t think you read what he wrote.
His definition of “mamzer” is fundamentally correct in most Orthodox circles.
I suppose a Karaite may have a different opinion.
“Now if you guys want to make up or follow rabbis who make up elaborate exclusions with weak and self serving arguments,”
The rule discussed is actually more strict that what you post from a Reform website.
Kindly stop trying to explain Judaism to Jewish people; you look like a moron.
