AKs are kind of like a cheeseburger. However you want it, you can have it. Those are Jared LaMarches thoughts on the Kalashnikov, or AK, rifle. LaMarche is a gunsmith at Windsor Arms in Windsor, Vermont. They bring a bunch of their AKs and other guns to the Green Mountain Boys Machine Gun Shoot in Eden, Vermont. The event takes place mid-July of every year.
LaMarche is a big fan of AKs. A lot of people think that the AK is not a fun, or a great gun. I think its awesome, he told Guns.com at last years shoot. He went on to explain that the AK platform was made for a conscript army. Which is when you take a potato farmer, you take him out of the field and you give him a rifle, and now hes a soldier.
LaMarche demonstrated a few full auto AKs, ARs, a VEPR-12 full auto shotgun along with a few other interesting and rare guns at the Vermont shoot. He believes that once you shoot a good quality AK, with good quality ammo, you too will be a big believer in the AK platform.
What do you think? Do you prefer AK or AR?
Here are a few AKs that Ive had the pleasure of photographing over the last few years.

I’d take an AK over an AR. The AR is just a .22
Stealing that one! LOL.
To me it is no contest. The Colt H-Bar is one of the best guns ever made. Extremely accurate and a 20 inch barrel is short enough.
I have owned several AKs. They were reliable and a bit more accurate that they are generally thought to be but not a gun to really enjoy owning.
I’ve never been a fan of full auto. I’m okay with shooting quickly, and I can rapid fire accurately, but the area denial of spray and pray doesn’t do anything for me.
Chick on the left is holding onto the part that feels familiar to her hand.
Damn rear sight sure looks hinky...
I have never been much for long weapons of such low power.
Why not go all the way down to a .22 long rifle and plink on the cheap.
I had an HK91 that was more my line of rifle.
There are some good .30-06 rifles I would like though.
And I gaze longingly at those Finnish Lahti 20MM L-39 Anti-Tank rifles when one is on sale.
That first SBR looks very nice!
Theyve got better trigger discipline than most people who model rifles.
Natasha and Svetlana are charming :)
The one on the right could be the twin of a little girl I worked with. She was from Georgia. The one just North of Florida.
Gawgia is OK, floated the Chattahoochee with some of those gals
Wow, you’re right. Looks like it’s hopping up and down.
Finding tanks to shoot at could get expensive.
Avtomat Kalashnikova, the pride of Izhevsk.

Get the best of both worlds and have one or two of each.

Might want to change the tension on that.
