While President Donald Trump attended big-money fundraisers for the Republican Party and his 2020 re-election campaign at mansions in Southampton and Bridgehampton on Friday, many of his East End supporters are eschewing the spotlight especially after last weeks calls for boycotts of billionaire Stephen Rosss fitness chains SoulCycle and Equinox because he hosted the president.
We are all in the closet, said a boutique owner in Southampton who fears reprisals from his customers most of them moneyed Democrats if he speaks openly about his allegiance to Trump. Its like you have this disease and people want to run away from you.
A builder based in Westhampton worried that his customers would boycott his services if he reveals his support of the president. People have really strong opinions here and if you go around wearing a MAGA hat, you really need to fear physical violence, he said, adding the anti-Trump aggression comes mostly from summer residents.

Sounds like Tolerance Enforcement Brigades.

This is true and the Ministry of Propaganda is responsible.
Not sure it’s fair to brand people Trump “cowards” for keeping low profiles, depending on the circumstances. I am a single mother who lives in NYC. I have two MAGA hats. (I was an early-and-often donor to Trump.) I would love to don one and have my young son — he’s 12 — don the other and walk around the city. However, I have a reasonable fear that we would be the victims of physical violence if we were to do so. Would somebody, perhaps several people, leap to our defense? Yes, almost certainly, but that would be AFTER we’d been hurt, perhaps seriously. All it would take is ONE jerk. Am I really a coward for not wanting me and my young son to get beaten up — or worse? And if you think this couldn’t happen...you don’t know New York.
Or put to use purchase arms?
No, youre quite right. Patriotism needs to be smart, not suicidal.
Im afraid that the Hampton donors however, have announced a win for the fascists by even addressing the effects of the fascists.
They Announced their *compliance and their deference to little nazis.
You take care. Move to Texas. :D

True, but they say it's Trump who incites violence. Hard to square the facts.
I can understand that.
I am voting for a Presidential candidate (Trump) instead of against one for the first time since Reagan, but I won’t put a Trump bumper sticker on my car.
The last political bumper sticker I had was “McCain for President. If I have to. I guess.”
Too much chance of assault, vandalism, or road rage these days.

No, you are not a coward.
We are elderly and 100% of our income comes in via the internet.
Those violent fascists are everywhere and fully intend to isolate us all economically and socially, along with making good on their threats to kills us.
I have to refrain from answering posts on forums that use my real name. I’m in Wisconsin and both of us have had spitting (literally) and red-faced proggies right up in our faces.
Not worth it. It simply hardens our resolve.
Besides, nothing will ever get through to them, let alone change on synapse.

Neither compliance nor deference. More like irregulars who will crawl over broken glass to vote.
And: where in Texas? Austin? Houston? Dallas? You have these vermin, too and the pro-prog laws and judges to back them up.
As an old lady, I can tell you that no one blinks when one of these dangerous thugs threatens an elder. Everyone just sits there and looks at the wall.
Hopefully, you come to the defense of the threatened.

My husband is volatile, but recent videos of the road ragers out there have made him much more prudent. It isn’t even always political. People are on a very short fuse and lack self-mediation skills.
I parked my car (NC plates) with an NRA sticker and a Big League Trump supporter sticker on the street in Hell’s Kitchen (New York City) from Thursday night until Sunday morning and no one batted an eyelash. Trump is not nearly as unpopular as the media claims.
Thanks for being understanding! And I should emphasize that most New Yorkers, whatever their political leanings, are great and are quick to stand up for other people. It takes just ONE thug or nut to ruin your day.
P.S I love Texas! Thank God the USA has it.
Trump DOES inspire and incite violence.
From deranged Democrats.
