It started as a joke.
Early last year, President Trump riffed on an idea he called Space Force before a crowd of Marines in San Diego.
It drew laughs, but the moment was a breakthrough for a plan that had languished for nearly 20 years. I said maybe we need a new force, well call it the Space Force, Trump said at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in March 2018. And I was not really serious. Then I said, What a great idea, maybe well have to do that.'
But now, under a new name and with Congress support, Space Force is closer to becoming a new military reality. It would be the first new military service in more than 70 years.

Green leather jackets with a row of diagonal buttons, topped off with a gold football helmet. My God it would be beautiful.

It won’t be that bad with Trump as Commander in Chief. He gets to appoint the top.

Because communist China and Russia are militerizing space and we need to counteract that.

So what reason is there for an an entirely new branch of the military if we’re worried about Russian and Chinese satellites? There must be something more to it.

Agree, better to let China, Russia, North Korea, and soon Iran simply BLIND US by taking out our satellites when one of them decides to finally put an end to the United States.

Well, if the Space Force gets its own academy (like the Army, Navy, and Air Force have), presumably the students there will be Space Cadets.
