Yes, America has a problem.
And no, red flag laws will not stop the next mass shooting.
Nor is mental health the heart of the matter.
I am an American by choice. My pride in being an American today is a function in part of choosing to be a citizen of the freest and greatest nation the world has ever seen, and although I may not have been born or raised in America, I am familiar with our history and our cultural heritage.
As a result I know that not too long ago, in living memory, gun culture so universally permeated American society that it would be totally normal for young boys to bring their .22-caliber rifles or single-barreled shotguns to school with them, keep them in their lockers, and use them on the way home to bag small gameeven in California, one of the most anti-Second Amendment states in the nation today. Yet children didnt open fire upon one another in the corridors during recess or compile murder lists with the names of classmates they wished to kill. So the presence of guns per se is a red herring and tells us nothing. Not to mention the fact that you can kill far more people than either the Dayton or the El Paso murderers combined simply by stealing a truckin one case, more than 80 innocent people in less than two minuteswithout one large-capacity magazine....

“Never Let a Crisis Go to Waste”.
I had a .22, a bow and arrow, knives and scary fishing hooks in the trunk of my car as a teen.
Everyone I knew did, too!
And not once in all of my HS years did any kid DARE to harm another living being with a handy, accessible weapon. That was considered, ‘cheating’ and you didn’t do that!
If you had a disagreement, it was fisticuffs for the boys, hair pulling and nail scratching for the girls.
Ah. Simpler Times!
I see our problems as easily summed up:
* No God in School or the Public Square
* No FATHERS in the home
* The total devaluation of LIFE (abortion) and especially that of young men in crime-ridden areas
* Hands tied by Liberal laws that stop parents, teachers and social workers from getting young men the help they need
However, I have no idea as to changing ANY of these factors. :(
Why dont you critique the sentence structure, spelling, and/or punctuation?
Are you paid to do this?
Do you want the message to get out? Or not?
Oh...wait....
My take: These shooter wore eye and ear protection. They spent a lot of time at gun ranges. Ranges need to check everyone in with Drivers License which would be sent to ATF for someone to check Social Media sites for hints.
Thank you for posting this article and introducing me to the American Greatness site. I wouldn’t have known about it otherwise as I don’t often search back a full day to read threads.
Same with the Red Flag order. Does anybody seriously think someone who is willing to mass murder a bunch of innocent people is going to slowed down...in...the...least by a piece of paper saying they can't possess or obtain a gun??
Amewrican Greatness ^
But Chicago deaths exceeds all of these massacres just about every weekend.
“Red Flag Laws Wont Prevent Another Massacre”
Nonsense.
They’ll prevent many.
But at great cost to liberty. Personally, I think the cost is too high.
But these laws will work to reduce mass shootings, maybe a bomb or two etc.
In fact, MANY people on FR have been lamenting for years that everyone around these crazy bastards KNEW they were going to blow, but nothing could be done.
Society must have a threshold and a process for controlling the actions of crazy people. Taking away their guns is the first step in bringing them under control and allowing time to determine the level of threat.
Unfortunately, we KNOW these laws will be abused.
But, they will work.
Just Massacres of Gun Owners by the Government
At least until they acquire another gun.
Shouldn’t take to long if one is motivated.
They are not meant too. its not their purpose
Well said Mr. Gorka, well said.
“At least until they acquire another gun.”
By then they will have been interviewed by a witch doctor and a detective will be assigned to look at their history.
And, if warranted, committed involuntarily under existing law.
At least that’s the way it works on paper.
No, it will not stop the committed psychopath. But it will stop some eruptions of mayhem.
I’ll take that over an AWB or Universal Registration any day. Knowing fully it will be abused. The people will know when it is, and will then be required to stop it.
But at least you identified the problem accurately.
That is a necessary first step in finding a solution.
We always had guns in our house. When I was 12, my father got a bow and arrows, too. No one was ever injured.
It has in Connecticut and Florida so far at least.
