Full Title: Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick on El Paso Shooting: "What Do We Expect" When Kids Play Video Games Instead Of Going To Church?
Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, a Republican, told "FOX & Friends" Sunday morning that the mass shooting the previous day at an El Paso Wal-Mart was partially the result of the murderer living out a "super-soldier fantasy" he had learned from the video game series "Call Of Duty."
"This was maybe a video game to this evil demon. A video game to him. He has no sense of humanity, no sense of life. He wanted to be a super soldier, for his Call of Duty game," he said about the shooter. "As long as we continue to only praise God and look at God on a Sunday morning and kick him out of the town square at our schools the other six days of the week, what do we expect?"
"How long are we going to ignore at the federal level... something about the video game industry?" Patrick asked....
"So we need to look at all of this and who we are and as long as we continue to only praise God and look at God on a Sunday morning and kick him out of the town square at our schools the other six days of the week, what do we expect? What do we expect? Theres no excuse for this. We condemn it totally, but as a nation, we have to look at this and leave all of the politics out of it."

If such video games are the 'root cause', how many other COD type clones are there? And how many other thousands, hundreds of thousands, or is it over a million, players also play such video games but don't go out and shoot people to live their fantasy?
Address the mental illness of each individual lunatic, instead of lumping all video gamers to be blamed.
To give him credit, he did say as a nation, we should return to religious root envisioned by the Founders.
They always blame a substance.
These shoot em video games kids play on their puters and hand held devices in one of the main reasons for these mass shootings. The other is prescription drugs some doctor’s are giving these kids.
I play first/third person shooters.
I have murdered zero people.
Sometimes the right is as dumb as the left.
“These shoot em video games kids play on their puters and hand held devices in one of the main reasons for these mass shootings.”
If you believe this, where are the other millions of mass shooters?
I don't think he lumps all video gamers together. However, for these weak minded nerds who go on killing sprees, first person shooter games are probably an unhealthy influence.
I think it’s a little of all of the above, sparked by feelings that the government is not doing its job protecting our borders. Young people can respond too emotionally to such things and end up using “righteous indignation” to justify taking matters in their own hands. I bit of the concept in the movies “Death Wish”, but more sparked by the news media and video games combined.

so true. how about lumping in the violence on TV and movies.... Tipper Gore redux . Here we come.
Until we get someone outright stating “ I did this because I play video games, and wanted to see what happened in real life “ stop with the cliches...
I tend to agree with him.
[These shoot em video games kids play on their puters and hand held devices in one of the main reasons for these mass shootings. The other is prescription drugs some doctors are giving these kids.]
No, they have nothing to do with it. You argument makes as much sense as blaming the gun.
I’ve played shooting and fighting games since I was a kid and have shot or assaulted ZERO people as a result. ZERO!!!
The cause of these instances is one of two things...
1) Untreated mental illness
2) Piss poor family structure or lack of proper parental control beginning when the child was young.

Count me in your group. Very senior gamer who has friends equally of the same vintage. Many of us Vets also.
We know what firearms are capable of, and would never think of using them on civilians the way these disturbed individuals do..
Oh, please. What decade is he in ... the 90s?!

Add to your great list
Personal grudge or societal grievance they have to take out on others....

YES!!!
POV Shooter games seems to be a common factor in many of these mass killings... The video game is not the sole reason, but it does appear to be a factor. Sitting on a couch and mindlessly slaughtering for hours on end. likely numbs their brains to some extent.
I live in the province of New Brunswick Canada with a population of just 770+ thousand people. Five police officers and two civilians have been killed in two incidents. One in 2014 and another last year and both shooters were avid video game players.
Also a Vet, and mid 40’s.
I’ve been playing video games since the Atari 2600...
He is blaming the turning away from God for the violence.
And that there was a substitution made that never should happen; substitute video games etc for God.
And they probably both peed standing up, and were both White.
Correlation does not equal causation.
Almost every young male plays video games.
It’s a multi billion dollar industry.
This quote from Lt Gov Dan Patrick is what I was referring to:
“As long as we continue to only praise God and look at God on a Sunday morning and kick him out of the town square at our schools the other six days of the week, what do we expect?”
I agree with him 1000%.
>>> I don’t think he lumps all video gamers together.
Dan Patrick said -
“How long are we going to ignore at the federal level... something about the video game industry?”
Translation as he wants Federal government to regulate video gaming industry on certain genre.
What about the Hollywood film productions and maybe other tv programming? Should they also get federal regulations too? While we are at it, do we need to restrict fictions and fantasy books, too?
