An Islamist, a Communist, and a libertarian walk into a bar. The Islamist says submission to Allah is the highest virtue and an ideal society adopts Sharia Law.
The Communist strokes his grizzled beard in disagreement. Religion is the opium of the people. What really matters is equality! He then explains how Communism fixes inequality caused by bourgeois decadence. The Islamist nods approvinglyafter all, decadence is sinful.
Finally, the libertarian pipes up: No, no. Individual liberty is what really matters! Sharia Law and communism are fundamentally immoral because they violate personal freedoms.
The Islamist and communist exchange a furtive glance before bursting out in laughter. Individual liberty is immoral because it lets people betray Allah, the Islamist chides. Personal freedom is immoral because creates inequality, chastises the Communist.
Dumbfounded, the libertarian wonders whether his fidelity to liberty is simply symptomatic of having been born in Minneapolis, rather than in Mecca or Moscow.
Libertarianslike Islamists and Communistssee the world as it ought to be, rather than for what it is. Given that, they seek to change reality so that it more closely resembles their theoretical utopia. They want to create heaven on earth. Islamists accomplish this through blood. Communists through subversion. Libertarians?
Through propaganda.

There, fixed it...
all the Gary Johnson voters in 2016 will hopefully come to Trump
On first glance I saw it as librarians & not libertarians ; )
Excellent article and spot on...
Great read
I argued with Harry Browne more than once over his cockeyed trade & immigration positions. The Ls never made a lick of sense in those regards.
“They want to create heaven on earth. “
No they dont. Manifestly they simply want absolute power. When they win they ALWAYS snark at and laugh at all the useful idiots who are now under them and powerless.
And yet you'll come begging us for help when the next election come around.
Firstly, Libertarianism is split between open-border and closed-border. Open borders are not a Libertarian thing in particular, and I am of the closed border variety. Spend a lot of time reading Lew Rockwell’s website and that rift becomes very obvious.
I want the smallest amount of government and government interference in people’s lives as possible, as it was not so long ago. However, it is well within the government’s job to control immigration into the country and to protect its people, specifically from invasion, which is what we’re apparently seeing at the moment.
The Libertarians I personally know are also closed borders, so to speak, in that immigration needs to be strictly limited if not disallowed based on our nation’s needs at the time.
Please don’t lump all of us in with he open borders crowd.
Individual liberty is the proper end goal BUT it CAN’T be achieved or maintained without strict immigration limits.
You can’t educate people as fast as they can breed/move in on you and most cultures have little interest in individual liberty.
You must only allow in people from compatible cultures and you must limit even their numbers so that they will assimilate into liberty instead of moving your culture away from it.
I screwed up a bit.
I read this wrong and not carefully. Thought it was talking about “liberals” (the Left) who adhere more and more to Luciferianism and are driven more and more by the spirit of antichrist.
But after further review, my comments...
I am a (small “l”) libertarian. Contrary to the article, small “l” libertarians, like me at least, seek to restore individual liberty by things like understanding the reality of the Gospel of the Grace of Christ (spiritual freedom) and restoring the Constitution as written and originally understood and intended (political freedom). The Constitution is as itself declares, the Supreme Law of the Land. Contrary to the propaganda of the article, these things ARE reality from which pop culture has gone off the rails.
Also, as a small “l” libertarian, I believe in the free market economy (economic freedom). (I wish people would stop giving it the negative Marxist term “capitalism” although the free market is the true way of creating wealth and capital). Until the rise of the Left in the 1900’s, America was a free market economy. So economic freedom is not a “theoretical utopia”, but a reality that the Left has been allowed to steal from our way of life.
Contrary to the propaganda of the article which, as good Leftists do, makes no distinction between legal and illegal immigration, I believe in legal immigration, vetted and validated so we’re not letting in enemies of America.
This article makes a good Leftist/Socialist argument that more people are a negative. (That is why the Dems are the party of death.) We should be in favor of legal and vetted immigration. A market free from government interference which is something we should be fighting to restore, welcomes more people who contribute to the economy in many ways. Whereas socialism artificially creates a fixed labor pool and fixed incomes and NO innovation, the open competition of the voluntary cooperation between buyers and sellers of the free market with no government interference, invites innovation and progress in all areas of endeavor as it has for the last 200 years making America the wealthiest country on earth.
The slogan: “The free market creates wealth. Government creates poverty.”
Again, sorry about the screw-up. Instead, this was a chance for me to extol the praises of freedom of which so many including apparently this author, have lost sight, but on which our country was founded.
Freedom is not a “theoretical utopia” but a reality codified by the Supreme Law, the Constitution, of a Land called America.
I left for illegal immigration, abortion, war on terror
kind of things that made me libertarian happened today on KNX News Radio LA
Cal State Long Beach awarded grant to study why coyotes attack dogs and cats
But it helps the Libertarian’s 401Ks.
