A massive power outage has been reported in NYC, it's probably nothing, but given the location, I would not want to be in Manhattan tonight, it could get interesting if the power is out for a significant length of time...

It's from 40th to about 80th Street on the West Side.
We had severe thunderstorm in Austin on Monday. About 40,000 people lost power. We lost power about 5:00 P.M. Austin Energy had power restored at 8:11 P.M. I guess our electric company is much better than the one in NYC. Let me see if I can remember the name of that company. Yes, I have it CON Edison.
And it’s FIFTY THOUSAND customers, which is NOT people, but buildings and subways.

Lived in CT back in 1977 ... the year NYC had the last major power outage. Had business appointments in NJ the following day ... remember driving down to the GW bridge and listening to the reports on looting, etc.. It was this time of year ... July as I recall. That outage was much larger than this one ... the previous major power outage in NYC was back in November 1965.
Wall Street is shutdown for the w/e...
I have a 20-year-old daughter working in the Bronx right now, and I am freaking out that the subways back to her Manhattan apartment aren’t running.
So all you smart-assed freepers who are making jokes about this should just STFU.
There are real people affected here.
I have a cousin in NYC, but not sure where she is in relation to the outage.

We just went to Walmart, and the place was very empty. We were able to park close to the front, and it wasn’t even dark yet. My immediate observation was that there were no Hispanics in the store. My husband thought I was crazy and premature in my assessment. By the time we left, he thought there might be something to my observations. It was reinforced because we checked out in the lawn and garden section. When we entered that area, there was a Hispanic family checking out. The children looked at us in a scared way, said something to their parent, and as soon as their transaction processed, they RAN out the door and to their minivan. They all hopped in and drove off speedy quick. No other Hispanic folks in the store did I see. Usually, the place is full of all kinds of people. There were whites and blacks and some possibly Pakistani folks. It was very strange.
