French President Emmanuel Macron announced the creation of a French space force to reinforce his nation's air space capabilities.
"To give substance to this doctrine and ensure the development and reinforcement of our space capabilities, a space command will be created next September in the air force," Macron said Saturday in a speech in front of the military. The space unit will be called the "Space and Air Force."

In the early 1960’s the U.S. - Soviet space race was on and the insufferable Charles DeGaulle was president of France.
A joke had it that the French space program would bypass the moon and be first to put a manned probe on Mars!
Reason?
“Because, eef zaire ees intelligent life on Mars, eet weel speak FRENCH, of course!!”

And they'll pay for it with what?
And they're going to import scientists from where?

And they're going to import scientists from where?
From the what used to be the USSR...
If you look at Soviet space missions, they "partnered" with the French on a number of them.
