Why now? The fact that the Southern District of New York is handling this provides the answer. With the Clinton-Obama-Mueller Collusion Hoax having collapsed, and the Democrat-controlled House investigations going nowhere, the SDNY is now the only real weapon left with which to try to decapitate the Trump presidency. The SDNY is going to try and get Epstein to rat on Trump. That is, they are going to force him to read lies from a pre-written script in open court to once again smear the President as either a pretext for impeachment or to destroy his bid for reelection.
For me, it smacks of desperation. They threw almost the entire apparatus of the Federal law enforcement and intelligence community at him along with almost every major and minor media outlet in the country and failed miserably, to the point that a clear majority of Americans now distrust the media and Congress more than ever, as the President's approval numbers hit record highs along with the economy his policies ignited. Pass the popcorn.
The Franken thing was supposed to take out trump, IMO. A lot of stuff was supposed to take out trump. They are not used to people with an R after their name being fighters.
They are constantly trying to find new ways to start CW II. They confuse our restraint for a lack of resolve. (I like that line so I’m using it.)

It’s either desperation or they are really on to something.
All of the facts that are out so far, as well as all of the previous patterns, all indicate that fishing expeditions have no boundaries or limits to their aggressiveness. If this is desperation, this hail mary requires a very creepy man to not just sing, to save his arse, but to compose. Like the investigations before, facts and convictions are not necessary.... only salacious news fodder, no matter how tenuous or unfactual they are.

Its sad that they could never really nail someone like Epstein before, but now that presidential politics is involved, we suddenly have virtuous prosecutors. heh. But if they smell blood in the water, there’s no way these sharks wont attack. It’s just in their nature.
No matter what gets leaked, or how much defamation occurs by innuendo, there is no repercussion for malicious and harassing investigations. So even if the reward is extremely improbable, the risk is low, and as I said, you still get to feed the media salacious topics. So now you have 2 more years associative libel and nothing to stop it.
Of course, this whole premise could just be wrong, and they wont try to associate Trump to this, but who actually believes that. I think we’ve already seen it start.

I worked around lots of lefties. Trust me, the don’t fear Republicans at all. They know weakness when they see it.
They forget that Trump’s own highly-vaunted private security operation has the “goods” on just about all of his opposition. Ooops!!
Yes, they assume people who vote for Republicans are as spineless as they are. Yet they DO understand the need to take away our 400 million firearms.

Exactly right. There are no coincidences in politics.
This is just another phase of Get Trump At All Costs.
The Rats and their so-sonspirators in the Brown Shirt Media know all they have to do is “control the news cycle”. So instead of Watergate 2.0 for the last three years we have gotten a never ending, day after day, stream of distracting stories that collapse after a couple days until a new breathless outrage against Trump can be manufactured. You have to admit, it works pretty well. At this point in Watergate they had Nixon on the ropes. Were the press unbiased 0bama and Hillary would be wearing orange by now.
Trump is no choir boy. But the real evidence implicates Clinton, not Trump. Very poor judgment to have anything at all to do with Epstein and his ilk. Also very bad form for Trump to take that all so accommodating Federal prosecutor that let Epstein go into his Cabinet.
Recall the Tea Party movement. There were a few events with good turnouts but more often they were lightly attended because so-called conservatives wouldn’t get off their couches to even participate in a protest.
I tried many times to get people who consider themselves patriots to attend Tea Party rallies but they just couldn’t find the time or were unwilling to sacrifice a few hours to do something meaningful.
The point is, Americans have become a pretty passive lot. We care more about our comforts and personal lives than we do about our liberties and freedom.
Excepting the people on Free Republic, of course.
Any suggestion of people getting fired up to do something serious is pure fantasy. Just isn’t going to happen. The consequences are simply too great for most people.
But the real evidence implicates Clinton, not Trump.

Real evidence doesn’t matter as we’ve seen with the Mueller witch hunt. All that matters is the ability to fabricate “evidence” that gives rise to innuendo and justifies further “investigation”. The media will take it from there.
