General Jack Keane appeared with Stuart Varney this morning to discuss Iranian aggression in the Persian Gulf after Iran had shot down a $123 million US Navy Broad Area Maritime Surveillance Drone (BAMS-D), yesterday.
The New York Times reported last night:
President Trump approved military strikes against Iran in retaliation for downing an American surveillance drone, but pulled back from launching them on Thursday night after a day of escalating tensions.
The operation was underway in its early stages when it was called off, a senior administration official said. Planes were in the air and ships were in position, but no missiles had been fired when word came to stand down, the official said.
It was not clear whether Mr. Trump simply changed his mind on the strikes or whether the administration altered course because of logistics or strategy. It was also not clear whether the attacks might still go forward.
According to Gen. Keane, President Trump is said to have ordered an attack on the sophisticated radar-guided surface-to-air missile launch site, in response to the unprovoked attack.
The deployment of U.S. naval and air military assets had already been set in motion when the president immediately reversed himself and ordered a stand down.
Gen. Keane said that the president reversed that decision after United States intelligence sources had come into new information that the Iranian commander who ordered the strike had acted on his own and was being disciplined for his actions.
It is unlikely President Trump will allow himself to be rolled by a hostile foreign nation, but it is even more unlikely that hell add his name to the list of presidents who have allowed themselves to be drawn into unnecessary wars in the Mid-East.
Once President Trump learned that the attack was carried out by a rogue commander in the field, and with the knowledge that the economic sanctions hes placed on Iran has that nation on the brink of financial collapse, he decided that continuing his more measured approach was the wiser alternative.
President Trump has rebuilt our military as a deterrent to foreign aggressors. But, he has replaced the use of U.S. military aggression with the employment of aggressive economic strategies.
This president understands that economic security is military security and he recognizes that our rebuilt economy makes us the most powerful nation on earth.
President Trump is determined to force hostile nations to come to the negotiating table rather than a field of combat by the imposition of economic sanctions in order to drive better deals for America and to make the world a safer place.
IF you had such access, you would damn sure not be posting about it here.
When the CinC posts far more details on Twitter than I ever came close to approaching, you can probably sit your dumb ass down and be quiet.
What are the chances the defense dept had intel that rooshins were on site as advisors on operating fairly sophisticated radar and logistics ? Wouldn’t be the first time, you can bet there were no clandestine ops in Venezuela after Russia inserted their special ops. Russia and China both voiced their support for the ragheads after the tanker minings to keep us at bay by hinting at proxy support. You could see possible hesitation in chancing killing Russians over a drone. Even the Syria missile attack they gave Russians advance warning so there would be no casualties.
Oh good, I am really curious.
It was not clear whether Mr. Trump simply changed his mind on the strikes or whether the administration altered course because of logistics or strategy. It was also not clear whether the attacks might still go forward.
Oh. I see.
For all we know, the "rogue general" is a CIA or NEOCON etc., plant to gin up a war.
For all we know, the "rogue general" is a CIA or NEOCON etc., plant to gin up a war.
All of the text of the blog post is there.
He definitely made the right call.
For whatever reason.
You cannot undo an attack on an adversaries mainland.
If you are not committed to existential war, for the duration and no matter what else, don’t hit their mainland.
Congratulations on your introduction to the Chief Resident Troll of FR! Enjoy!
He’s not banned, but guess what, even though he’s an embarrassing suckup to the management, his posts have been zotted in the past.
Like I said, enjoy!
I am very glad our POTUS decided NOT to escalate the situation, Id it had been a plane with a pilot totally different situation, HOWEVER an unmanned drone can be handled without escalating tempers over there, we still have boots on the ground in the area and their safety comes first!!!
“Wiping Iran Off The Map”.....should have been done in 1979!

Another pretty worthless clickbait site that takes other peoples work and reprints it as if they were the reporters. All this is for advertising clicks. They count on Conservative readers to fall for their untrue and outrageous headlines, which they fallfor every time.
Exactly, what a bogus headline
Who knows, maybe someday FR will prohibit posting from private blogs and unknown websites that are just clickbait sites. Probably about the time that q finally disappears.
Clickbait. Should be banned from FR.
Exactly. It has become acceptable for anyone to post any home grown personal blog as if its a legitimate news source. I guess if allowing qooks to post fantasies as if they were real then posting vanities as if they were news reports is just as real.
More of the misleading headlines.
“... Here’s What Happened.” Not true at all.
From the article:
“It was not clear whether Mr. Trump simply changed his mind on the strikes or whether the administration altered course because of logistics or strategy. It was also not clear whether the attacks might still go forward.”
It is not clear at all what happened. Trump called off the strike.
I’ll take bullchit headlines for $1,000, Alex.
Then I guess the realDonaldTrump twitter account has been hacked because this is what he said.
You are not trying to imply he has lied to us, huh?
