Trump Was Moments Away From Wiping Iran Off The Map, Then Things Changed … Here’s What Happened

General Jack Keane appeared with Stuart Varney this morning to discuss Iranian aggression in the Persian Gulf after Iran had shot down a $123 million US Navy Broad Area Maritime Surveillance Drone (BAMS-D), yesterday.

The New York Times reported last night:

President Trump approved military strikes against Iran in retaliation for downing an American surveillance drone, but pulled back from launching them on Thursday night after a day of escalating tensions.

The operation was underway in its early stages when it was called off, a senior administration official said. Planes were in the air and ships were in position, but no missiles had been fired when word came to stand down, the official said.

It was not clear whether Mr. Trump simply changed his mind on the strikes or whether the administration altered course because of logistics or strategy. It was also not clear whether the attacks might still go forward.

According to Gen. Keane, President Trump is said to have ordered an attack on the sophisticated radar-guided surface-to-air missile launch site, in response to the unprovoked attack.

The deployment of U.S. naval and air military assets had already been set in motion when the president immediately reversed himself and ordered a stand down.

Gen. Keane said that the president reversed that decision after United States intelligence sources had come into new information that the Iranian commander who ordered the strike had acted on his own and was being disciplined for his actions.

It is unlikely President Trump will allow himself to be rolled by a hostile foreign nation, but it is even more unlikely that he’ll add his name to the list of presidents who have allowed themselves to be drawn into unnecessary wars in the Mid-East.

Once President Trump learned that the attack was carried out by a rogue commander in the field, and with the knowledge that the economic sanctions he’s placed on Iran has that nation on the brink of financial collapse, he decided that continuing his more measured approach was the wiser alternative.

President Trump has rebuilt our military as a deterrent to foreign aggressors. But, he has replaced the use of U.S. military aggression with the employment of aggressive economic strategies.

This president understands that economic security is military security and he recognizes that our rebuilt economy makes us the most powerful nation on earth.

President Trump is determined to force hostile nations to come to the negotiating table – rather than a field of combat – by the imposition of economic sanctions in order to drive better deals for America and to make the world a safer place.

A. It was a planned piece of deception from the get go. Everyone played their roles very well, especially Potus who is a seasoned actor.

B. The deception is wreaking untold havoc in Iran. Now their military will be on GQ status for weeks not knowing what to expect and that creates demoralization and discontent.

C. Trump can now negotiate with the factions in Iran who value what was done and let them convince the rest.

D. It’s totally dishonest to say Iran would have been blown off the map, the “threat” was of a limited tactical strike.

Why do these people have to spew such BS?

Starting military action now would change the entire election dynamic, and we might get stuck with one of the commie-kids the Democrats are running.

China is a major purchaser of Iranian oil.
We are in trade talks with China.
Iran is asking for a beat down.

It looks like Trump has both China and Iran over a barrel.

Trump Was Moments Away From Wiping Iran Off The Map

There are only 150 people in Iran?

We've been bogged down in Iraq - a much weaker country than Iran - for two decades now. Let's concern ourselves with building a southern border wall and defending ourselves from the ongoing invasion from Mexico before we start wiping nations off maps. Trump has his priorities straight - unfortunately there are always armchair generals who want to start something they won't be fighting in.

You mean, “Tone your mind.” A mind is a terrible thing to let go, like your waist. Keep it toned. Otherwise you’ll end up a posting bot for a lame-ass blog.

You know, I'm fine with it either way as long as it doesn't turn into a pattern. While I hate that they shot down a drone in international airspace, killing a bunch of people to make a point isn't vey good.

Maybe, give a warning that location "X" is going to be hit at "Y" time and date and then do it. Thus, if anyone dies it will be on Iranian hands. It would be really nice if the location was in a place where the important and not important people had to drive by it weekly.

The answers to your three (3) question are:
  1. Greed;
  2. Yes; and,
  3. Yes.

This would have been a Syria hit and nothing substantial. Trump taking out their oil refineries is the end game for the Iranians, it would finish off their economy.

We needn’t get into another land war in Asia, we simply hit them where it does the most damage economically. We will be hit back and should be prepared.

If the economic sanctions can bring about regime change we should continue down their route. The CIA it seems doesn’t know they are supposed to work for the USA and not themselves may or may not be useful in a regime change and at this point quite honestly could Trump believe anything they tell him? They have been wrong so many times in the past and never held accountable for their long list of screw ups.

Perhaps turning the Saudi’s loose pushing for regime change and spreading the $$$ around with continued sanctions would be better in the long run. However, that being said if they hit a US target and our people are hurt or killed, their refineries are flames and their navy sits at the bottom of the Gulf.

The title massively overstates the case.

If the report is true that Trump was told that casualties would be 150 people, there is NO WAY IN HELL a military strike of that magnititude would “wipe Iran off the map”.

Some folks just want to see us in another way and will say anything to spike up the fever for it.

We should start recognizing who among our “friends” are selling the drum beats.
