Pray for John Roberts
Any retirement announcements rumored?
Lets see what rights we have after today. Its madness these 9 people have so much influence - even crazier these federal judges can issue national injunctions. I think this rule by judicial fiat sucks donkey
This is the case of a cross erected in what is now a traffic circle to commemorate fallen soldiers in World War I. The Fourth Circuit agreed with a group of local residents and the American Humanist Association that the memorial is unconstitutional, but today the Court reversed, so the cross can stay.
Justice Alito looks to history, appearing to draw an analytical line between maintenance of long-established monuments with potential religious significance and erection of new ones.
Ginsburg and Sotomayor are the only full dissenters in the case.
Here’s the link to the opinion in American Legion v. American Humanist Association. Amy Howe will have our analysis:

The upshot is that the Fourth Circuit is reversed and remanded.
Anyone who still doubts that Gorsuch is on the side of the good guys needs to read his concurring opinion in American Legion. He’s as strong as Thomas.
In case you didn’t see this - Peace Cross stays.
Thanks SMGFan.:)
In a large and diverse country, offense can be easily found. Really, most every governmental action probably offends somebody. No doubt, too, that offense can be sincere, sometimes well taken, even wise. But recourse for disagreement and offense does not lie in federal litigation. Instead, in a society that holds among its most cherished ambitions mutual respect, tolerance, self-rule, and demo- cratic responsibility, an offended viewer may avert his eyes, Erznoznik v. Jacksonville, 422 U. S. 205, 212 (1975), or pursue a political solution. Todays decision represents a welcome step toward restoring this Courts recognition of these truths, and I respectfully concur in the judgment.
