Keep in mind, rubber bands are not what they used to be. I have some in the basement from the 1960’s and they are unchanged and elastic. The ones that come wrapped around my mail these days will dissolve in a week.

If reliability and safety is not an issue for you, then - it's your call.
Don't blame anyone else when you get hurt.
Just because it happens to work, for a little while, does not mean it's good engineering.

A little further down the list from the top 4, is a rule that states make sure that your gun is safe to operate. This is an irresponsible article. Someone somewhere is going to get hurt trying to replicate this.

Setting off an explosion inches away from one’s face, and expecting to contain the shrapnel with rubber bands... what could possibly go wrong?

It is all fun until this thing would hit you in the eye.

As bad as the majority of AM Journal articles are, you really should include ‘guns’ as a keyword if you are going to post them so the articles can be found by the popular keywords.

FINALLY! Some useful information from American Shooting Unrinal.
Not.

Years ago (when you could buy a complete AK parts kit, including chrome-lined barrel, for ~$125 ;^), there was a debate of sorts among AK builders, regarding the use of rivets or screws for attaching the trunnions to the receiver. To illustrate how little stress is actually placed on those connections by firing, somebody attached trunnions to their receiver by jamming multiple toothpicks in the holes. Surprisingly, the connections actually held for a few shots, before failing.
Obviously, some firearms-related information is mostly of academic (rather than practical ;^) interest...
