Like garbage disposers I guess AOC has never seen a tornado either. Not even on YouTube because there is nothing and I mean nothing “casual” by any definition of that word about tornadoes. Perhaps she meant “causal” tornadoes, as in “there’s a causal relationship between climate change and an increase in tornadoes.” Although the PBS report she’s reading from while livestreaming her horrifying tornado warning experience for her Instagram followers seems to indicate the contrary:
“Tornadoes are challenging to link to climate change links due to their nature (geographically, limited, acute patterns, how they form, etc.,”
Of course that failed to stop either AOC or PBS from making the link anyway. Reading from the article she explained:
“Rather than lie squarely in the Great Plains, America’s tornadoes appear to be sliding into the Midwest and Southeast.”
I’ve lived in the upper Midwest my entire life and let me tell you, Spring/Summer tornado warnings have always been standard fare, along with the less frequent but far from unusual touchdowns. But I always forget that history doesn’t begin until it effects millennials so here’s a brief glimpse of how things were in the way-way back machine:
In 1954, a tornado with winds up to 300 miles per cut a wide path of destruction just outside Grand Rapids, MI causing 330 injuries and 17 fatalities.
1954!? That’s, like, a really, really long time ago! Did they have cameras then?
Then there were the Palm Sunday tornadoes of ‘65:
It happened with virtually no warning on April 11, 1965. Killer tornadoes smashed through the Midwest over a 12-hour span, killing 271. Michigan was one of the hardest-hit states with 53 deaths.
I repeat, not casual. Not if you were in the middle of it.
Now, many people have been making fun of AOC’s tornado tweeting. She was even chastised by a real meteorologist who tried to relate to her on her own terms:
“The Congresswoman @AOC does not know the difference between weather and climate,” Maue tweeted.
“Let’s try an easy analogy: Weather is what outfit you wear heading out the door. Climate is your closet wardrobe.” – NYPost
But honestly, my favorite part of Sandy’s Instagram Tweet-Storm was this:
“There’s people stuck outside, this is crazy.”
Not because of the verb/object disagreement, I’ve come to expect that, it’s the “We need to get them out” part. She doesn’t seem to understand you’re supposed to come IN from the rain, not vice versa. Which explains a lot.

Bless her heart, you can’t expect a barkeep from the Bronx with just an undergraduate degree in Economics and International Relations from a top-rated university to understand complicated things like garbage disposals and weather. That’s all post-doctoral work.
It’s not till then that they tell you how to make computer models that will firmly establish a link between a line of thunderstorms and global warming. It’s complicated.
It’s, like, the difference between “we’ve only got 12 years!” and “we’ve only got 12 seconds.”

I think she really did mean ‘casual’ tornadoes. Which there is nothing wrong with her phrasing, as she meant to say that they’re regularly occurring and are now the norm.
Regardless, she is still wrong, since tornadoes occurred randomly and in just about every part of the U.S., and they’ve been regularly occurring ever since “weather” became a thing on the planet.
I would love to see this no wit debate bastardi on this issue as his numbers contradict her opinion.
I truly wonder if she’s eve seen a chain saw, let alone used one, fired a gun, or used a lawn tractor. After all, not knowing what a garbage disposer is after living 28 years is quite an accomplishment.

Aug. 25, 1814
The same day that British troops set fire to the Capitol, White House and other public buildings, a strong tornado struck downtown D.C. The storm’s rains extinguished the fires and flying debris killed British soldiers. The tornado also blew off roofs, knocked down chimneys and destroyed some homes. At least 30 Americans and an unknown number of British were killed and injured.
Sept. 16, 1888
At 3:15 p.m., an F2 tornado touched down in downtown D.C., between 9th and 10 streets in Northwest and moved up Maryland Avenue. Two homes lost their roofs and the National Museum and Botanical Gardens were damaged. The path of damage was two miles long and 70 yards wide, but no injuries or fatalities were reported.
April 5, 1923
At 2:30 p.m., an F3 tornado hit Rock Creek Park and moved north to Silver Spring. The path of damage was 11 miles long and as wide as 250 yards. Twenty people were injured, seven homes were destroyed and 12 more were damaged. There were no fatalities.
May 14, 1927
At 6 p.m., an F0 tornado was reported near Capitol Street and Rhode Island Avenue. There were no fatalities or injuries, and damage was minor.
Nov. 17, 1927
At 2:25 p.m., an F2 tornado crossed the Potomac River from Arlington and touched down at Navy Yard, near 8th and M streets in Southwest. The tornado moved northeast, narrowly missing the Capitol Building before dissipating in Prince George’s County. The tornado swept across about 17 miles in total, including about three miles in District, where it was 140 yards wide. Fifty people were injured and 439 buildings in D.C. were damaged.
May 21, 1943
A waterspout over the Potomac River swept inland as an F0 tornado. It passed within a few yards of the Jefferson Memorial before dissipating. There was no damage or injuries.
May 21, 1943
There were reports of a short-lived funnel touching down near the Navy Hospital. There was no damage or injuries.
May 18, 1995
At 1:22 p.m., an F1 tornado hit the National Arboretum, uprooting dozens of trees before crossing the Anacostia River. No injuries were reported.
Although I don’t care for Tweeter, I am glad that it’s around to show use how truly naive and stupid this woman really is. I think that she is representative of all those young kids coming out of college. They are overeducated but have no freakin idea what the hell they are doing. Supposedly she has a degree in economics and has no idea what is supply and demand.
She is a congresswoman and has no idea what she is doing. But she has twitter so everyone can see how really stupid she is. Of course this makes a major statement about the people that elected her. Even Pelosi said that her district would elect a glass of water. The morons leading the totally moronic people of New York City. I know I will probably get flamed for this but maybe we are experiencing all these natural disasters because of the Godless country we have become and God is sending his judgement upon us. And it will probably get worse.
