Bill Maher And The Democrats' Anti-Catholic Bigotry
Flopping Aces ^ | 05-22-19 | Daniel John Sobieski

Catholics are the sole remaining group that it is politically correct to slander and denigrate and that was made clear by the recent cable rant of social commentator Bill Maher against the Catholicism of Attorney General William Barr and Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh:

HBO host Bill Maher went on a long diatribe in which he appeared to air his grievances with his childhood faith of Catholicism, suggesting that public officials like Attorney General William Barr and Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh sought power so they could regulate people's sex lives.

Barr's faith, Maher said, was the reason an apparently "smart, normal" Republican turned out to be so weird. "I'll tell you what happened -- In 1950, he was born into a strange cult and he's never been able to leave. It's called Catholicism." Maher started his criticism with Barr whom he said was "just the latest in a long lines of Republican, Catholic moralizers."…

"It's not about tyranny, it's about t**s," he said after quoting Barr lamenting the sexual revolution. Barr, he speculated, didn't care about President Trump allegedly wanting to be a "dictator" but just wanted to regulate sex.

Maher, like most liberals, are moral relativists who do not believe in moral absolutes such as the doctrine of the Catholic Church, the church founded by Jesus Christ. They support things like gay marriage, abortion until the moment of birth, and LGBTQ “rights” one if which is the alleged constitutional right of an anatomical male to put on a dress and use the little girl’s room. They believe in a “living Constitution” constantly bent out of shape to according to the passions of the moment.

They want to gut the First Amendment’s Freedom of Religion to a one-hour on Sunday thing where Catholics and other Christians can preach to the choir, no pun intended, but otherwise are not allowed to act on or speak about their faith in the public square. They fear strict constructionist judges like Kavanaugh will repeal the wrongly decided Roe V. Wade and that attorneys general like Bill Barr will put those who believe that liberal political agendas justify political coups in jail.

Nowhere is that clearer than in the consideration of nominees for court vacancies, particularly for the next Supreme Court vacancy, which, judging by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s age and frailty, may come sooner than we think.

Democrats in the Senate, members of the so-called party of tolerance and diversity, are no longer hiding their anti-Catholic bigotry, putting it on display during the Christmas season confirmation hearing of Omaha lawyer Brian C. Buescher, nominated by President Trump to represent the District of Nebraska on the United States District Court:

In the true spirit of the holiday season, Senators Kamala Harris (D-CA) and Mazie Hirono (D-HI) showed their true colors of bigotry and bias against Catholicism in a recent judicial confirmation hearing on Capitol Hill….

Buescher is also a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus, an iconic service group of nearly two million Catholics, worldwide, that recruits members for volunteer work and fundraising for charitable causes….

Originally founded in 1882, the Knights of Columbus started as a society benefitting poverty-stricken Catholic immigrants; now, the organization donates nearly 200 million dollars per year from approximately 15,000 chapters across twelve countries….

“Sen. Harris described the Knights as “an all-male society and asked if Buescher was aware that the Knights of Columbus “opposed a woman’s right to choose” and were against “marriage equality” when he joined,” the Catholic News Agency reported.

Of course he is as is the Catholic Church the Knights of Columbus were formed to serve in its religious and charitable functions. It is ironic that as the nation observed the birth of Jesus Christ, Democrats in the Senate were busy attacking the tenets of the church He founded, that life begins at conception, as did the life of Jesus, and ends at natural death and that marriage is a union of one man and one woman. But then it is typical of Democrats to respect lifestyles and not religious liberty and not believe that personal religious beliefs, as Buescher testified, can be kept separate from court decisions:

Islam is the bizarre cult. There is a death penalty in some countries for leaving it, there are also harsh sentences for those who seek to convert muslims.

There is no cultural exchange on a one way street.

"Be Not Afraid! Open up, no; swing wide the gates to Christ. Open up to his saving power the confines of the State, open up economic and political systems, the vast empires of culture, civilization and development.Be not afraid! - St. John Paul II

In an address given during that 1976 Eucharistic Congress in Philadelphia for the bicentennial celebration of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Cardinal Karol Wojtyla spoke prophetic words.

- "We are now standing in the face of the greatest historical confrontation humanity has ever experienced. I do not think that the wide circle of the American Society, or the whole wide circle of the Christian Community realize this fully. We are now facing the final confrontation between the Church and the anti-church, between the gospel and the anti-gospel, between Christ and the Antichrist. The confrontation lies within the plans of Divine Providence. It is, therefore, in God's Plan, and it must be a trial which the Church must take up, and face courageously." - Deacon Keith Fournier, standing under the beautiful bronze statue of John Paul II in Denver, Colorado.

“Catholics are the sole remaining group that it is politically correct to slander and denigrate” Not true at all. Christians, white men, whites in general, Chik Fil A, all are in the cross hairs. Conservatives on campus are another group being targeted.

I wish Catholics would take SocDem antiCatholicism, as well as antiSemitism, to heart when they go to vote. To far too many, the Religion is the last considered when it should be the first.

I try to insert that wherever it is relevant. I think everyone on the right, socially, culturally and economically needs to read that piece and absorb its points in order to be able to argue them to the few liberals who can still discuss things rationally. Dennis Prager now has two of his projected series of commentary on the first five books of the Bible out and at Amazon et al. I have Exodus with Genesis coming. The part I have read so far seems to be the best commentary out there.

This attack against the Roman Catholic Church is only the face in which all Christianity is attacked. Anyone that thinks that this attack is only about Catholicism is mistaken.

Agreed! If we all did exactly that, no Democrat in this country would even be elected dog-catcher! ;)

There’s no need to watch Bill Maher; there’s no shortage of Anti-Catholic bigotry right here at FR.

Maher is an anti-Catholic bigoted ass, but to be fair, I've seen plenty of conservative Evangelical protestants made the same kind of snide remarks about Catholicism and sneer about how its an "unbiblical man made cult" and claim we blindly agree with whatever the Pope says (and of course, all priests "rape little boys"). The worst offenders are ironically ex-Catholics who got "saved" and now have some axe to grind with Catholicism because they didn't receive a proper cathechicism about what the Catholic church ACTUALLY teaches.

I've noticed conservatives turn a blind eye to that when the bigotry is coming from people on "our side".

I think its become an issue for the right the way they left is quick to ponce on "anti-semetism" from others but complete ignore all the Jew hating bigots in their own ranks.

Exactly. I pointed out a while ago when FReepers were blasting Diane Feinstein's anti-Catholicism that she just needs to take a job as Trump's "White House bible studies leader" and she can be as anti-Catholic as she wants. I haven't seen a single non-Catholic FReeper object to that guy spewing anti-Catholic comments quite publicly, let alone demand he step down from the post.

Imagine if the situation was reversed and you had a "Bible studies" leader saying obviously bigoted garbage against Baptists with comments like "the goals of the Baptists to keep women barefoot and in the kitchen" and "the Southern Baptist Church isn't even Christian, its a great lie created by slaveowners to lead people away from Christ"

Christians IN GENERAL can be bashed, true, but Catholicism is sole remaining SPECIFIC group that it is OK to demean in modern society and the mainstream media will let you get away with it. If you SPECIFICALLY attacked any OTHER denomination of Christianity, you'd be ostracized for it.

For example, if you said Lutherans "are a bunch of NAZIs, which is not surprised since their founder Martin Luther hated Jews and told his followers to burn their homes", you'd be immediately get called out for that and the media would demand you apologize to Lutherans.

On the other hand, if you said the Catholic Church "is a pedophile cult that its OK to rape little boys because their Pope just promotes that sort of thing", the media would shrug their shoulders and ignore it. Many would even applaud you for trashing Catholicism.

That could turned around and said about non-Roman Catholics as well.
