Are California Gasoline Prices Being Manipulated?

Market manipulation could be behind the fact that California drivers pay more for gasoline than the rest of the country, the Lost Angeles Times reports, citing a statement by the California Energy Commission.

“The Energy Commission has identified a number of possible causes that could explain the residual price increase in California, ranging from refinery outages to potentially market manipulation,” the statement, sent to Governor Gavin Newsom, said.

The commissions said it has identified several possible reasons for the fact that as of Friday, drivers in California paid an average of US$4.05 per gallon of gasoline, which was US$1.20 higher than the national average. Besides market manipulation, the reasons also included refinery outages.

None of the potential causes included higher taxes and California-specific summer blends?

Typical leftists. They constantly put the screws to the energy companies with excessive regulations and taxes, and then they complain when the costs get too high! Leftists destroy everything they touch, and they refuse to accept the responsibility that they’re the ones who are causing havoc!

Yeah, I was gonna say - Yes, they are being manipulated by insane taxes.

I will say this, though: Where I live (KY) the price difference between regular and premium is, on average, roughly $.50. I only get premium at Kroger because the difference is $.30, but at some stations it can be as high as $1.00. I was in California two summers ago and I saw the difference was only about a dime.

I guess it’s just all expensive there. :)

California charges sales tax on gas, which most states do.not. that’s on top.of the ongoing federal and state gas taxes. Then the whole summer blend thing adds to the cost.

I saw a breakdown once, of the cost of a gallon of gas in California. Leading the way for higher costs were the additional taxes such as the sales tax, and the higher cost of the winter and summer blends of gas required.

Point being, there are documentable reasons why California has such high gas prices.

How is it that this country has the largest energy resources and such high prices for gas and electric?? Maybe the deep state is trying to make Trump look bad.

Is it legal to post the price and the taxes on every pump. Inform the drivers.

And here we (the nation) are in a natural gas glut and CA utilities are thru the roof, all because our leaders force utilities to sell the more expensive wind or solar.

lets not forget the unbelievable smog regulation imposed on those diesel delivery trucks, and of course the California roads aren’t much better than most dirt roads in this country, thereby destroying those expensive trucks.

$3.20/gal for regular. Too bad my car uses premium, which in my area has been at $3.55 lately.

How about companies pricing in potential liabilities from wacko Californian Government, Courts and Environments. Since there is no reasonable way to measure the liability companies most likely get as large a pool of funds to protect themselves from the unknown.

I call it the Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) effect!

“Best price”on regular locally (Anchorage) is $3.29 at COSTCO.

The Muni added a $0.10 /gal tax last year- I see no difference in the road conditions locally....

As far as I am concerned the prices certainly are not high enough. They need to tax the hell out of the people to pay for all of the free loading Mexicans
