I often think how much better the world would have been if Bush senior didn’t take on Saddam. American losses were small, yes, but even one American life lost for the Saudis is a waste. And the trillions spent there?
Saddam was
1. threatening the Saudis & Qataris and taking their money that was later used to fund jihadis
2. slaughtering jihadis - he hated them as they opposed him. The jihadis would have been tied up fighting him (and losing)
3. attacking and preparing to attack Iran
Imagine that - he was taking care of three problems for us. He was still a murderous evil bast... but he was keeping the OTHER murderous evil b... in check

Yeah and I don’t think we had an alliance with Kuwait.
Iran and Iraq would have fought again and forever.
And you’re right. He was secular and kept the maniacs in check.
Now that I ABSOLUTELY know what the bushes are about, I am sure $$ and big companies influenced his decision.
And of course keeping a Saudi’s enemy in check would have been important to him since the bushes and the Saudi leaders are blood brothers.
