A Millennial Moms Manifesto Dear Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez,
Im writing to you to tell you that I respect you, and I disagree with you. I think you are confident, brave, fearless and beautiful. I love your dancing! Can I join in?! I admire your tenacity and bravado. We are both Millennials who love to wear red lipstick. And I think if I knew you, we might be friends.
Heres where you and I differ: I am a young mother with three sons who has lived a life where you have to rise to the top to succeed. I joined the largest university in the country (and very liberal one at that) as a young, conservative woman who didnt know exactly where she fit in. Yet, I assumed athletic and academic leadership positions quickly. I found my voice against the grain. I paid off my student loans rather than hoping the government might forgive them.
When I graduated, I got a big sales job with a Fortune 500 company. I won awards and saved the money I made. I quickly realized that a strong, confrontational woman wasnt perceived the same as men.
Did I whine and gripe? No! I moved to a more suitable company that respected women and treated them accordingly.
Have I experienced working in a mans world? YES! But I dont regret it. I embraced all my strengths in that world. Because even though there are a few weak & disrespectful men, there are many more strong men who respect women and know their value. I respect them, and I love what they stand for.
Now- onto your political ideals and values .
Fast forward a few years-I had three sons in four years. I sacrificed my career for my family so I could raise my boys. My husband started his masters degree when my third boy was born. Ive supported ALL of my kids & my household- all while teaching Bible studies, mentoring young girls and starting a small business. Three years ago, I bought a food truck and then expanded it to two locations. We live in a small town in Texas (which is larger than Pittsburgh), and we won customer voted awards in our second year.
If your Green New Deal or any of your socialist ideals get pushed through, I will close my business. Guess what happened when I opened my business? I started paying HUGE taxes- to the county, to the state, and to the Federal Government. You will lose that. I know you dont care about my small business. But what about the 16 high school and college kids I employ every year? Ive given many of them their first jobs and have taught them lessons in work, life and leadership. Sure, if I shut down my business, they can work somewhere else, but this is my impact on the community. I want to show my employees love and hospitality so that it extends to the 15,000 or more customers we have. I want to make money to keep us afloat, but more importantly, I want to have a business that supports its community and the amazing families in it.
Your government style will shut me down in one day- just like Obamas ideas shut down many industries.
Youve never run a business or a household. You dont understand the complex nature of staying afloat in business or family. You dont understand that a deficit can ruin you. Small business cant survive in your world.
As far as running a family, you cant print money. You have to live within your means and if you dont, youre in trouble. Its the same in family budgeting as small business budgeting. You like locally-run businesses? Then dont put such high demands on us and let our customers deem us worthy or unworthy not from you in Washington. Your policies will shut down my small business and many others that are bigger and more important than mine. The town, city and state governments will suffer. They will lose the money we pay them to be in business. This is how it really works. You go run a small business and a family and then give me a genuine rebuttal.
There are a couple of things left Id like to address I have a large SUV and you want to take that away. Its the only thing that helps me transport my large family and all my business supplies. I need this car to run my family and my business, but your climate projections are more important than my need and my choice?!? That is not what I call freedom. You tell my business to make the sacrifice for our climate, but so many others than just mine will suffer and shut down. I care about our planet and I do everything in my power to treat it with respect.
Lets talk about race. Im not a racist not even close. I dont see race when I see people. I see all people made in Gods image who deserve love, acceptance and respect equally. I hire every race and gender, and it does not matter what color my customers are.
But I do believe racism is real, and we need to call it out whenever it happens. It happens in Republicans and Democrats alike and all need to be confronted. I will aggressively confront it when I see it, and I will fight against injustice. But heres one thing- dont judge my blonde, blue eyed boys either. They didnt choose their race or their gender or their coloring. They are innocent now, and Im constantly teaching them about equality, respect, and love. But my boys arent bad just because they are white and male. They are also made in Gods image. Treat them with respect too.
Also, I love immigrants. On my street, we just had a party for my neighbor from Portugal who finalized his American citizenship. On my street alone, we have neighbors from Venezuela, Mexico, New Zealand, Korea, and even Louisiana! They all did it legally and expect others to do it the lawful, Constitutional way.
Last thing, masculinity is not toxic. Men who abuse women are toxic. And weve all experienced them. Its awful. But us women have power too. We have lots of powers men dont have and must use them responsibly also.
Toxic feminists are a thing, too. Lets respect all people and not demonize the other gender. We need each other- in families, in business, in leadership and in life. Lets celebrate each gender for what they contribute and call out each side when they cross the line to abuse.
Im thankful for you and all our politicians who are bold enough to go into public life instead of private life. I have decided not to put my kids through the scrutiny that would involve. But I think you have the hutzpah and the power to affect small businesses, women in leadership, children, capitalism, and freedom for the good. I would like you to consider what freedoms you want to take away from this woman- me- a wife, mother, daughter, leader, and business owner to satisfy your social ideals. Consider my position, the small business owners position. We need freedom and less government interference. If we fail, it should be because we didnt do all we could do to succeed instead of an overbearing government who shut us down because we could not bear the rules, regulations and taxes.
Thank you for sacrificing, for serving and for listening.
Always,
A millennial mother, wife and small business owner.
PS: Youre not getting my guns.
written by a man I see. LOL.
Great letter, real or not. Unfortunately I doubt t AOC would understand it.
I don’t respect her or her dancing and that red lipstick is horrid.
Heard on the radio this morning uber lib Austin, TX city council has bought into that Green Deal.
Austin’s City Council wishes that it were Moscow circa 1955.
AOC and her ilk see the mom and others like her as Kulaks, “class enemies”.
This mom’s financial independence stands in the way of collectivization and therefore must be destroyed.
Exactly.
Only with respect to the amount of control the Central Government has over the people, so they can pick the winners and losers. They still want to make and keep as much money as they can in their tech jobs, drink their craft beer and tell everyone how kind, caring and compassionate they are. Until the folks that they’re supposed to be kind, caring and compassionate to, want to move in next door. Nothing but a bunch of phony control freaks.
“Man’s World” = Standards were giggly little bimbos must perform and they hate that.
Not true. DB passed on to others a letter written by a friend of his, who is the millennial mom.
