Almost All of You Paid Less Taxes in 2018, And Bernie Sanders Wants That Money Back

Today’s Campaign Update (Because The Campaign Never Ends)

As always, the fake news media was lying to you. – Yesterday was tax day, and millions upon millions of Americans found out that, as is always the case when it comes to President Donald Trump and his policies, the fake news media has been lying to them for 15 solid months about the impacts the Trump tax cuts would have on their own income tax bills. The fake news media has spent every day since the bill was passed in December, 2017 telling the Big Lie, reciting its joint talking points with their Democrat Party masters, pretending that the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act was just a giveaway to millionaires and corporations.

But yesterday was the proof point, with pretty much every taxpayer outside of high state income tax states like New York and California getting a very significant cut. Even in those high-tax states, the great majority of citizens paid less tax than they would have under the Obama tax regime.

Still, leftist morons like failed actress Alyssa Milano were out on Twitter, posting mindless nonsense claiming things like “Already this April, we’ve learned that tax refunds are down this year by $6 BILLION”, proving only that they have no clue how the income tax system works. Yes, total tax “refunds” have been lower than under the previous high-tax regime, for two reasons: 1) the most obvious – total tax LIABILITIES are much, much lower under the new system (duh), and 2) the simplification of the system resulted in more accurate tax withholding tables, meaning wage-earners got more of their hard-earned money up-front, rather than overpaying and allowing the government to earn interest on their money until they filed their refund claim.

But we can’t expect abject nitwits like poor Alyssa to ever understand anything so complex. The doofus also tweeted that “According to a recent NBC/WSJ poll, only 17 percent of Americans think their taxes went down, and a majority don’t think they got any tax cut at all. And this isn’t partisan. Only 33 percent of Republicans think they got a tax cut.”

Well, yes, but what does that prove? It just proves the success of the Big Lie strategy by the media/Democrat axis of propaganda on this issue. Even on Fox News, you could find talking heads on a regular basis lying about these tax cuts. Just as in 2008, when Americans were brainwashed by the media to accept the notion that they were somehow obligated to vote for an African American man, as if doing that would somehow make up for slavery, this particular Big Lie strategy was a success, no doubt.

And let’s face it: many, many people – including pretty much all Democrats – are so dimwitted that they will continue to believe the Big Lie even though they paid far less taxes in 2018, simply because they got a lower refund. All that does is prove how successful the political left has been in dumbing down our schools.

The rest of us should just enjoy our extra money, and remember that those tax cuts were enacted without a single Democrat vote. NOT ONE.

Meanwhile, the Democrat front-runner wants all that money back, and more. Much, much more. – The Commie had a townhall on Fox News last night, and made it very clear he wants all of that tax money back, and a whole lot more.

Bernie Sanders – now the front-runner for the 2020 Democrat nomination according to the new Emerson Poll – told moderators Martha McCallum and Brett Baier about all his grand plans to rape the American taxpayer and spend all their money on “free” college, “free” healthcare and “free” everything else, promising well over $100 trillion in new government spending if he is elected to the presidency.

Hey, if you’re going to turn the Democrat Party into the Socialist Party, you might as well go all the way.

On the other hand, you do have to admire Sanders for having the guts to go on Fox News, where he knew he would be asked tough questions that would never be asked on CNN, MSNBC or any of the three major networks, and sticking to his guns. The old Bolshevik had a quick, if hilariously mindless and false, answer to everything, and never strayed from his commie roots, which is more than any of his challengers would be able to do in the face of such a grilling.

And hey, it’s refreshing to see at least one Democrat finally dropping the pretense that he or she is not a socialist, isn’t it? Sanders doesn’t really believe anything that Obama or Hillary Clinton didn’t believe – he’s just willing to come right out and say it.

His frankness has already influenced the other contenders to be more honest about their real bone-headed beliefs, and Sanders’ new-found status as front-runner in the race will only cause the others to move even further to the radical left.

Thus, no matter which one of these raging lunatics ends up with the Party’s nomination, American voters are finally, at long last going to be presented with a clear, stark choice between voting to continue have a free and open society, or follow Venezuela by taking our country down into the socialist abyss. That is where the Democrat Party has wanted to lead us since at least the Woodrow Wilson Administration more than a century ago – Sanders is just the first guy who’s been willing to openly and proudly admit it.

Dangerous times, these are.

Out of curiosity I compared the raw numbers from 2018 against the raw numbers from 2017. I found that, although I made more last year I had less tax withheld resulting in a tax bill half again as large as what I paid last year. It’s the withholding that muddies the picture between one’s tax obligation and what you actually cut a check for.

At least for the average taxpayer.

Yes, they SHOULD be looking at line 15 (Total tax) on their 2018 1040 form and not down lower on their 1040 form (after tax withholdings and estimated payments had been subtracted) in line 19 (refund) or 22 (additional rad owed).

If a person took no action, the federal tax withholding from each of their paychecks went DOWN in 2918. Less withholding in some cases meant a lower refund at tax time.

‘additional rad owed‘ = additional TAX owed.

If you are someone that had a ton of deductions with no child credit, then the new tax laws stink for you. You will definitely be paying more this year.

However, for us, the new tax laws were very good. We went from paying every year, to getting thousands back this year. The 2000.00 per child credit was one of the biggest factors for us.

Well, they didn’t take it from us!
My Lord but we got a big refund for the first time in years, and turned out out to not even be able to use deductions after itemizing for decades.

We made a sizable donation last year to a local university and I was surprised that the only thing it did was put us at a higher chance for an audit. There was no tangible deduction value.

Yeah, but did it get your kid into USC? I think that's the relevant question here.

I kid, I kid.

LOL! No, unfortunately, I had to do it the old fashioned way -- kids working hard to get into school and me paying out-of-pocket $39K per year EACH for my two at Purdue (my son actually turned down Princeton for Purdue).

We've got another on deck in a few years. I'm watching Lori closely for ideas...

Fewer Taxes or Less Tax. Fewer drinks or less water.

I feel safe in saying that the vast majority of people in the USA don’t have the faintest idea of what they’re paying in taxes. The closest thing they come to that is expecting a refund. When you ask most people how much they paid, the answer is “I didn’t have to pay anything, I got XXX dollars back!”

The employer withholding is the greatest evil the government put over on an unsuspecting public. It hides the amount of money people actually pay. It the entire population had to file quarterly returns, along with payments, there would be a popular uprising. That, and the belief that there’s “an employer’s part” of social security and medicare payments. It’s still a part of one’s cost to the employer.

My refund was 3k less...but I paid $800 less in taxes. Had a pile of receipts for deductions, which weren’t needed. Had I not had experience from previous years, it would have been a lot simpler.
