The DUP’s Westminster leader Nigel Dodds has denounced Mrs May’s entire approach in a statement that all but guarantees her deal will not pass next week. The outcome of yesterday’s EU summit seems to have been the last straw. The DUP rejection also casts severe doubt on whether the confidence and supply arrangement that gave her a working majority can survive, at least under her leadership and without a hard Brexit prime minister succeeding her and able to deliver it.
It may be that as the government casts around for an alternative to her deal, they are implicitly withdrawing from the DUP deal anyway. None of the suggested alternatives disposes of the backstop because the withdrawal agreement would survive, being eligible for replacement only in the next stage of negotiations for the final relationship. As the threat of No Deal by whatever name recedes, so it seems do the DUP’s terms for agreement and their leverage in Parliament...
The Irish backstop was a way to have Brexit while still honoring the Good Friday agreement that the UK signed in the 90s that brought an eens to violence in Northern Ireland

The UK is nit a nation but a union of four nations: England, Scotland, wales ans northern Ireland. It also includes the culturally amd linguistically distinct channel islands and isle of Mann.
You are kidding. There has been a republic ig Ireland independent of the UK and a northern Ireland since 1920
somehow the history books are going to describe the 2016 referendum and then whatever result may is trying to drag the UK towards. if that latter is different from the former, the history books will need to supply a plausible reason for the change or portray may as working against the will of the people. if the history books take to may’s defense, then imho they must portray the voting public as somehow being mistaken or fooled or stupid. may needs to go to hard brexit if she is to avoid this quandary but imho watching her “walk” it seems like she is trying to evade that.

The EU exit negotiations for UK were always designed to punish the UK as much as possible, if you don’t understand that you are grossly misinformed.
Which is why every single exit proposal has FAILED to get the votes in Parliament.
The EU knows if leaving the EU is not painful, then other nations will leave too... so, making sure any agreement that they allow you to leave will be detrimental to the UK. The EU never had any intention of motivation to negotiate in good faith with the UK for leaving the EU, because a painless exit will just encourage Hungary and other nations to leave too..
Britain should have been planning for a hard BREXIT from day one.
How in your opinion were they more painful? The EU has the four freedoms of people, goods, services and capital as sacrosanct. If you want one you get all four, no deal just for one. And the EU was adamant that Irelands concerns about the border would not be overrun by the UK. That’s hoe a club protects its weakest members.
How, in your opinion was the negotiation painful? You do realize that the EU needs to look out fpr its own interests just as the USA does.
And Hungary has one of the highest pro EU approval rates among eu countries

But I don’t comment my opinions on things I don’t know about. I have zero opinion on many many topics as I don’t know anything about them and don’t comment on what I don’t know.
Too many have a warped idea of Brexot and think it is the EU holding back the UK when it is rather the UK creating its own chaos.
Ditto for the Northern Ireland problem.

Thatcher disagreed with the idea of using referendums. She supported and campaigned for the UK’s continued membership of the EEC. She did this because she saw all the advantages of a European Single Market and knew that Britain needed to be in it but she resisted, often very successfully, attempts to commit the UK to those parts of the European project she didn’t like. She negotiated an indefinite rebate from the EU budget for the UK and obtained specific opt-outs on nearly every treaty that was drafted, including most notably the Maastricht treaty. She was committed to making Europe work for Britain, rather than the other way around.
Thatcher’s unshakeable resolve (some may say intransigence) paved the way for further opt-outs later on. The stall she set made it easier for the UK and others to decline involvement in the single currency, something the people of Denmark and Sweden are still grateful for. Her attitude to Europe was that we needed to have a seat at the top table so they could use it to get the UKs own way.
Brexit throws all that away. All the concessions the UK has obtained from the EU and all the influence the UK Government has had in its design are now for nothing.
Thatcher would have been appalled.
Maybe that is what finally gets you guys to revolt.

She wouldn’t get in today’s situation. As I said, she was smart and realized that it was better to br in the club and force the eu to give the uk opt outs. Which is what happened, the UK got so many opt outs it causes resentment, but Mrs. Thatcher got them and kept good relations. She got her way by being part of the eu
