[Vanity] Which is better, D.C. or Marvel Comics?
EEE | 16 MARCH 2019 | EEE

My daughter loves the Marvel Universe, but I grew up with D.C. comics. I remember in the 70s watching the old "SuperFriends" cartoons as a kid. I've always thought D.C. had better heroes. But I have to admit Marvel has the better movies and storylines.

Which do you prefer?

This is sad.

judging from the level of discussion on FR, it's a good thing you can buy your way into college.

I’m sad you’re sad. I’m sure if you look hard enough you can find a happier place.

Marvel was my favorite because of Frank Miller’s Daredevil “Born Again” arc and Iron Man (Tony Stark) living on the street as an alcoholic. Machine Man and Mobius and the other monster comics. That was it though. DC is better

In the silver age of comics (60’s and 70’s) Marvel was best by far.

It’s exactly the same as adults getting excited over other adults still playing with footballs and baseballs.

But without the Ché and Castro shirts of course.

I preferred Marvel titles and I guess I always thought DC was kinda lame until I read Dark Knight Returns. I’m not sure Marvel has an answer for that. The regular comics I have read, I have to go with Marvel.

The SJW mob took over DC in the early 1970s. They help me out of the comic book phase at the time.

That, and the price increases.

I did buy some Charlton for the horror stories.

I agree. That was truly the Marvel Age of Comics.

Marvel was always much more adult and had real life issues. DC was kind of the more childish fluff. Marvels 70's Kirby years are the absolute best! Way better artistry then the juvinile horse crap nowadays...

70's Jack Kirby years...

Nowadays crap art....

I’ve always liked Marvel better. But DC wasn’t without their good ones ... especially Batman and Superman.

I agree also. 1964 through 1966 was Marvel at full throttle imho. The story lines and writing became very involved and adult themed, (Far out pacing anything DC was putting out), and the drawing and inking went to new levels. The books were purchased heavily by high school and college age kids during that era also bringing Marvel Comics into a more accepted type of reading. I have seen most of the Marvel movies but Iron Man, (One of my favorites back in the day), #1 was the only one I liked.

In 1964 when I was very big into comics, it was Marvel, hands down. Now they both suck, have for a long time.

Neither.

Dark Horse has some interesting stuff sometimes.

Japan’s superheroes preceded any US flying ones. Superman couldn’t fly originally; he had the same kind of powers as the Hulk. (Meanwhile, Ōgon Batto, who preceded Supes by nine years, could always fly.) And I do kinda like the fan-art crossovers, e.g. Dragon Ball’s Saiyans vs. Supes for example.

“Marvel was always much more adult and had real life issues.”

I’d term it as “Emo with Social Justice thrown in for good measure” rather than “adult”.

I liked Spider-Man (Marvel) because he had real world problems.

I liked Sgt. Rock, and The Haunted Tank (DC).

I liked Sgt. Fury and the Howling Commandos, and Semper Fi - Tales of the Corps (Marvel).

I'm pretty sure I have every edition of the latter. There were only about 10.
