Ruger American Ranch Rifle - Quick Gun Review
Am Shooting Journal ^ | 3/7/2019 | J Lamel

Posted on 03/07/2019 4:47:15 AM PST by w1n1

Designed as a Lightweight, Inexpensive, Ease of Handling and Less Recoil Bolt Action Rifle
When Ruger American rifle hit the market back in 2012, it was an instant hit amongst hunters that were looking for high performance but affordable.
As expected, Ruger has since produced several other versions of the rifle specifically for particular niches in the hunting and shooting communities.
Ruger American Predator comes to mind for hunting varmints and predators.
Theres Ruger American Compact which is a lighweight rifle chambered in a less recoiling cartridge.

So what is this Ruger American Ranch? This rifle is considered a handy bolt action rifle and can be used as a truck gun.
Cool Features

As you can see these attributes help make it a good choice for a truck gun for any farmer/rancher to carry around.

Another similarity between the Ruger American Ranch rifle and the Mini-14/Mini-30 is the calibers. While the Mini-14 and Mini-30 are produced in 5.56x45mm NATO and 7.62x39mm respectively, Ruger also currently manufactures the Ruger American Ranch rifle in 5.56x45mm and 7.62x39mm as well as .300 Blackout and .450 Bushmaster. They should hire a Jr. High School student as editor, judging by the first sentence.

They remove the iron sights and set the weapon up for a scope mount (which they all will probably have) - but they kept a straight comb on the stock so now most of their customers will have to re-stock the thing.

Not thought all the way through...

Mossburg makes a similar line of rifles but they will take Magpul magazines rather than expensive proprietary mags.

Jim Acosta's already got a job. For now.

Overall, not a bad effort considering the past. Just add two words there and you’ve got a readable piece.

Winchester lever action carbine Model 1873 chambered in .357 magnum is my choice for low recoil ranch rifle.

"Winchester lever action carbine Model 1873 chambered in .357 magnum is my choice for low recoil ranch rifle."

I've got a Marlin .357 lever action and it's a blast to shoot. Very accurate too.

Refer to the article, first, before “flapping your gums”! You should know by now that posters who copy from articles generally do not correct the punctuation.

I have owned several of the American rifles since their introduction and they all were good shooters. They are more accurate then their M77 bolt guns IMHO and experience.

Typical for an AM Shooting Journal post. It's part of the fun.

The Ruger Ranch Rifle is my all time favorite. There’s just something about it.

I will second the Marlin in .357. Makes a perfect pairing with a S&W pre-27 .357.

“Mossburg makes a similar line of rifles but they will take Magpul magazines rather than expensive proprietary mags.”

The current ruger takes ar-15 mags, although the early ones were proprietary mags.

The 7.62x39 version still takes the mini 30 mags though.

Come on, you know Jim Acosta never graduated from kindergarten.

That being said , what about the remington 788 carbine with the 18.5" barrel.
I've used it in .308 with 220 grain round nose for hog hunting in heavy brush.
Iron sights in this case .They go for 400-500

Great photo of Sarah and the CNN cry baby. Full of crap and all.

Remington has made some excellent firearms. I don’t see how they will survive long term with the current PC climate in the NE. I’ve heard little about them since the bankruptcy filing last year. In my opinion, manufacturing cannot survive in a high cost of government environment.

I like good clean, simple design of all products.

Simple works.

It’s interesting how these newer bolt-action rifles, regardless of manufacturer, often look remarkably like the 788. Tubular receiver, minimal ejection port, detachable magazine - Remington was decades of the curve with that design. I still have one that I bought from my first employer (a hardware store) during high school.
