Just don’t buy their avocados.
Ugh! Keep it all ...
Thanks! That’s a great price. I always buy 2 and freeze one.
On a related note, this week will be a great week for sales on fish and seafood. Aldi’s has plenty but so do other supermarkets in my area. I’m stocking up!
We’ve found this is a way to make very tasty corned beef:
You braise it in a frying pan, then stick it in the oven at low heat.
You got a helluva bargain there bud. My Aldi’s is selling it for $2.99/lb which is still a great deal.
Which cut ?
Got to be the point cut. Flat cut always costs more.
Thanks for the tip. I’ll be heading to my Aldi - which has a limit of two per customer - in a little while. My family LOVES corned beef and this is the time I year I stock up. It freezes well.
They put my corned beef in a can.
Thanks for the tip
Would that be red or gray corned beef ?
Amazing. Even where I buy my meats a 3lb. flat cut brisket is 5.99 per pound.
I love Aldi! I usually go to the one on 10th Ave So. and Congress. I was there two days ago and looked at this great deal. I realize that all corned beef is high in sodium, but this brand, at 1000+ mg per serving, seems higher than most. But if you don’t have to watch your sodium, grab this deal!!!
Yesterday, my Aldi’s was out of the $1.99 corned beef, but had another cut of brisket for $3.99. They were also out of fresh fish, except for tilapia. I won’t eat tilapia.
The discounted corned beef is typically about 40% fat. How does Aldi’s stack up, quality wise?
I prefer to spend my money with a store that is USA owned. Supporting ALDI is supporting GERMANY! To each his own!
If one has the time and a Big Green Egg, it is worth the extra effort.
35 percent! Plus there is an extra flavor packet included.
The meat quality is so bad, they have to add over 35% chemicals to make it taste like meat.
I like Aldi’s but that $1.99 per pound deal is the point cut of corned beef. I made that last year (bought at Aldi) and it had too much embedded fat. aka marbled fat
So the next week I got the more expensive cut (maybe dollar more per lb) (I think is called flat cut) and I liked the lower fat lots better.
I cooked corned beef three times last March
My last experiment was to put the flat cut o corned beef in a thick bottomed pot on the stove with ZERO ADDED WATER. On a very low flame. It came out great
As far as the traditional boiled (really just simmer them on low) Irish veg accompaniments......Leave the vegetables whole. Do not cut them up. Simmer the vegetables such as carrot potatoes and cabbage. Celery. Toss in a whole celery bunch uncut up. Whole cabbage do not cut it up!!!! If you do the flavor leaches into the broth.
Lastly have some good strong bread at the table that you spread mustard on and then a slab of your hot corned beef. Of course just as good the next day cold or at room temperature. My preference is Dijon mustard from Aldi.
