President Donald Trump, in an interview aired on Super Bowl Sunday, said he would have a hard time letting his youngest son Barron play football, but would ultimately let him decide.
Responding to host Margaret Brennan on CBS Face the Nation, Trump said of 12-year-old Barron playing football: If he wanted to? Yes. Would I steer him that way? No, I wouldn't.
I just don't like the reports that I see coming out having to do with football, Trump said. I mean, it's a dangerous sport, and I think it's really tough.
The National Football League has come under some fire in recent years for reports of long-term brain damage in current and former players due to repeated blows to the head, known as chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE.
The NFL has attempted to ameliorate the health issue through rule changes and improvements in equipment, which Trump acknowledged the limitations of.
The helmets have gotten far better, but it hasn't solved the problem, Trump said, adding later hes heard NFL players saying they wouldn't let their sons play football. So. It's not totally unique, but I I would have a hard time with it."
The New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams play for the NFL title tonight in Atlanta.
He’s not built for it ...
"....72 footballs available for today's game. Let's hope their all inflated correctly"
Football might be a very different sport if no one in the league was allowed to be over, let’s say, 220 pounds. Less chance of injury if you won’t be slammed by a 350 pound guy.
Anymore if your kid is not at least 6ft and 200 lbs of muscle he will get annihilated in high school ball.
Athletes are bigger, stronger and quicker than ever before. The injuries are getting more numerous and devastating as a result. Its a dangerous sport no matter how much we enjoy it as a nation!
He p1ays semi-pro soccer.
“Already long ago, from when we sold our vote to no man, the People have abdicated our duties; for the People who once upon a time handed out military command, high civil office, legions everything, now restrains itself and anxiously hopes for just two things: bread and circuses.” - Juvenal
HAPPY SUPER BOWL SUNDAY!! TRY THE NACHOS!
more so because he doesn’t work out rather than not built for it. Many boys are thin until they choose to develop their muscles more in their teens, and I would guess a number of pro ball players were similar.
plenty of people don’t look capable of some thing until they decide to try.
Preach on.

...
Yep. Brady plays great with properly inflated footballs. He, however, does have difficulty with ones that are over-inflated.
Agreed. Even though I played it in school many years ago, I would never let our sons do so today.

My son played football at a small private school in Minneapolis. He said when they occasionally played public schools it was pretty intimidating when the guy across the line was 6’ 4” and was sporting a full beard.
Plenty of smaller guys suit up every week and succeed at rhe highest levels. CJ Anderson, Julian Edelman and Darren Sproles to name a few.

Tell that to Barry Sanders.
...ask your husband or some other man who he is.
Barron is built like Peter Crouch and could have a nice pro soccer career.

Plenty of smaller guys play and do a great job. Now if you think football is tough try playing Rugby. It is basically football with no pads, helmets, no time outs etc.
Ask some other man cause likely you don’t see the size of the kids playing high school football now. They are huge.
I am against footbal, too. PLAY RUGBY!
