Most police supported the protesters.

Not reliable enough. Recall last week, when the police put down their shields and masks near the yellow-coats, in solidarity against Macron.

Native police and military occasionally side with the people when the revolution comes. That's why the government will bring in foreign troops to put down a revolt. See also: Hessians.

Why the EU

Because the EU is basically run by German elitists. And historically German troops in France have such an illustrious history. (sarcasm)

Logically, this should have EVERYONE on the streets!

It is part of the French police. GatewayPundit is a crappy website often making things up.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Gendarmerie

"The National Gendarmerie (French: Gendarmerie nationale [ʒɑ̃daʁməʁi nasjɔnal]) is one of two national police forces of France, along with the National Police. It is a branch of the French Armed Forces placed under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of the Interior—with additional duties to the Ministry of Defense. Its area of responsibility includes smaller towns, rural and suburban areas, while the Police Nationale—a civilian force—is in charge of cities and downtowns."

There have been stories and vids of the police siding with the protesters in various places in France.

Back when the terror attacks occurred, the French authorities had to admit that they simply didn’t have an adequate number of police, so the military was drafted to fill in. At the time, French people were very accepting of this, and felt ‘safer’. Course, they didn’t anticipate that the same military would be called upon to face off regular French people.
