On the Rockies, a man who was leading one of those bigfoot expeditions in the peaks asked me for directions to a place next to a particular peak. He and his colleagues wanted to camp there for a night. I was interested to know why he was involved in that effort and asked about it.

He explained to me that it was one of several psychological efforts to direct more people towards Atheism.

I said that was very interesting and to be on the alert for bears, listen for the sounds that they make around dusk in the peaks (mostly woofing from slightly higher elevations than the people they’re drooling over), etc. That area was infested with large, aggressive bears. The locals didn’t want public attention drawn to that particular breed of bears in that particular area, because they didn’t want to get in trouble for defensive killings of a so-called endangered species (a huge, stubborn, aggressive breed). According to local, hushed discussions, if bad came to worse, someone could theoretically say that an enormous dead bear that had destroyed their front door was only a black bear.

“He explained to me that it was one of several psychological efforts to direct more people towards Atheism.”

In regards to that, by the way, the leader of the bigfoot expedition explained to me that it was one of several efforts to get more thoughts about the missing link into more people’s minds. He said that such thoughts conveyed by their reports tend to sway more people towards evolution and Atheism.

As big as these creatures are supposed to be why aren’t there thousands of footprints to follow? Something that size should leave some pretty well defined footprints.

I don’t rule out anything just because I haven’t seen one. They are constantly finding new species and species that were supposed to be extinct. I’m open minded about that kind of thing.

Really? how does an undiscovered ape make people atheist?

We already know of Chimps and gorillas. The guy is a fool.

To reply to an earlier objection. There is actually rather good photographic evidence of these creatures but it doesn’t work because the people that don’t believe in them say “Fake!” “Hoax!” “Photoshopped!”

I would encourage you to look at what Bill Munns (Custome Designer for Hollywood movies said about the Paterson Gimlin Film. The fact that Bob Hieronymus claimed to be in a suit just means that Bob was aliar. He was 5 foot 6 inches and the creature in the film is nearly 8 feet tall.

Funny how his Grandfather had been following him to see what kind of squirrel hunter he was, but had to ask him whether or not he had killed any squirrels. HMMMMM!

Right on! I carried a camera with me for decades to enable a good photo of Flying Saucers or Big Foot. Never happened. I finally came to the same conclusion that you have. But I still carry a cellphone!

There are plenty of photos. You just have to look for them. They’re there.

Photos lots of times don’t work. There’s plenty of instances of people setting up trail cams and getting pictures of nothing.

When I lived in Oldsmar, FL there was a conservation preserve bordering my development and one or two would come in there every fall. So one time I slipped the fence and went in there with my Canon Powershot. There was an area of shallow water not too far back. Walking the edge of the water I saw a large, foot-shaped print. It was a bit indistinct and looked to have been made when the water was higher. Nearby, towards the water was clear imprints of a biped on all 4s, like someone bent down to take a drink. I mean it had the foot imprint, the shins, the knees and the forearms all imprinted in the mud. The water level had receded so the imprints were dry. I took several photos and one great shot of the whole imprint clearly showing it was a biped on all fours. The shin imprint was over 2 feet long and the forearm was nearly as long. Not human. When I got back to the house and went to load the pictures to my computer the one photo which showed the whole imprint was completely white. The camera has never done that before or since.

Everybody has a camera phone today. If there isn’t a picture today, then it didn’t happen. I don’t give a rat’s ass if it is Bigfoot, the Loch Ness monster, the abominable snowman, a UFO or a ghost.

Go ahead and try to silently and stealthily drag that phone out of your pocket while hunting/hiking and get a legible picture of that deer/bigfoot/whatever. Try it. I've been trying for years with wild (not tame) deer. It can't be done.

I’ve spent much of my life outdoors in places away from other people. I would believe that bigfoot existed, if I’d skinned him myself and had his hide on my floor.

My son has a great bigfoot encounter story he tells.

In short, he and his wife were camping when, at about 2:00am, something started gurgling/howling near their tent. He grabbed his shotgun and flashlight. It circled their campsite, moving through the brush. He had had encounters with bears before and this did not sound like a bear. He finally shined his flashlight on it.

It was about 8 or 9 feet tall, furry, and it’s eyes reflected back the light, reddish.

One more gurgle/howl and it turned and went deeper into the woods.

They grabbed everything, tossed it in the back of the truck, and hauled ass home.

He won’t come right out and say it was bigfoot, just that it was something large, hairy, and very loud.

“Didn’t go back and reshoot?”

Nope. The thicket just to the west gave me the creeps. After photographing I continued north along the water edge. I came to a set of boot prints in dried mud walking counter clockwise around the water and towards the north end of the thicket. I followed the footprints to where they went up and over a little mound and into the north of the thicket. When I got to the mound I noticed to the right another set of the boot tracks. They were coming out from the thicket at a full run to the NNE. The NNE was the shortest distance out of the mud to get to solid ground. I figured I’d seen enough and left. I’ve never been back to that area and have no intention to. You can go though :)
