The French police forces including the special CRS riot police will be as fully mobilized as possible in Paris and other locations tomorrow as the "yellow vests" protests move into their next phase of mobilization swelled by new supporters.
125-thousand plus were estimated to have protested last Saturday and its quite possible that the protests may be even larger tomorrow.
The Prime Minister of France's increasingly unpopular President Emmanuel Macron, Edouard Philippe, appeared on the evening television news Thursday to say 89-thousand police are mobilized for tomorrow's protests....

I think Saturday will be large, but the media seems to be blowing this up a tad.
I think Macron’s 89,000 police might
be a tad overestimated.... just a bit
the Police are pretty tough here. I dont think it will be like Portland or San Francisco where the cops stand around and watch people riot.
Yup. That number is for police across all of France, which probably includes crossing guards and the like. It sounds great, but when you get down to it we aren’t talking about 89,000 trained riot police.
89,000 police!
....maybe that egg had effect on his
judgement.
“It sounds great, but when you get down to it we arent talking about 89,000 trained riot police.”
It reminds me of somebody who called in the National Guard to quell a college protest. A bunch of nervous, mostly untrained, mostly ill-disciplined, heavily armed men getting pelted with rocks sounds like a recipe for disaster. Nothing helps your popularity as a leader more than fifty or so dead innocents. And the whole thing will be recorded on a few hundred iPhones and Tweeted across the world.
Oh, and what happens when a bunch of cops join in with the protesters?
The problem for Macron is he is defending a globalist climate change theology. The rhetoric has been elevated to utter catastrophe if the religion isn’t paid fealty to this very instant. If we don’t do X we will all die in ten years. Because he has artificially raised the stakes to an all or nothing level he can’t back down on his anti-global warming policies or we’ll all die. Therefore all he can offer is a six month delay while, obviously, the government develops the means to quell dissent by heretics.
I think the average man on the street understands this.
The Kent State fiasco is similar to what the Brit’s did to Gandhi’s followers that catapulted him into stronger leadership. It could happen in France, or here.
If the protests stay peaceful, the cops/troops ought to join in
What stopped you from posting the whole thing?
“If we dont do X we will all die in ten years.”
I like your perspective on this. Macron’s put himself in a corner. If he backs down it will be confirmation that global warming is a joke.
But they are lefties, they can be quite creative in times of crisis.
His action was condemned in the House of Commons, he was called home and cashiered. Unfortunately, the damage had been done.
Information is flowing in France today along with plenty of disinformation as the government tries to stop the protests.
Schools are a center of protest with around 200 high schools being the sites of protest today.
What number French Republic are we on? I forget. Perhaps the French odometer is about to rollover?
