I think that tht there needs to be a FR rule that there shall be no negative comments about a person for 24 hours after their death. We, as conservatives (and some as people of faith), are supposed to be respectful if traditional norms...well, one of those is to give a decent interval after a person dies for the family, etc. to deal with the loss.
I, myself, had and have many criticisms of GHWB for his decisions and attitudes, but today isn’t the day to air them.
Thankyou for an excellent comment. There are about six threads on President Bush’s death and I cannot stomach the vitriol expressed by some FReepers. The hatred has no place on a Christian forum.
If Johnny Rotten can be that way, I think I can follow suit.
O.K.
What other “rules” do you want to establish regulating free speech?
Perhaps we shoildn’t discuss the Civil War, because that offends some people.
Maybe we shouldn’t criticize Islam.
How about criticism of the current pope?
Maybe there should be a standing committee to identify subjects that are out of bounds because they may offend people.
Gratuitous glee at the death of anyone is classless. But if you want me to elucidate all the genuine reasons to feel very bitter about this man and his entire family, let me know.
The coverage of the Bushes will be extensive this weekend and I do not intend to watch any of it. But I would never think of stifling individuals right to
praise him as its THEIR free speech.
I think you have to be very careful when it comes to criticizing ANYONE’s free speech otherwise you wind up sounding like an Antifa thug. It’s what they believe.
meh. if Hillary got hit by a truck, i won’t lie and say she should RIP. and not everybody here is Christian, or religious.
Totally agree. Sadly a few years back your comment wouldn’t have been necessary on Freeper. Definitely on DU, but not here. We used to take well deserved pride in that. How things have changed.
Jesus said let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.
why ask everyone to be PC/Emily Post when some one dies?
WHat is “negative comment”, to speak truth or to say nice things avoiding truths?
no wonder our country is such a mess. Too many decent people sucked into made up ettiquite rules.
We are in a continual spiritual war in this world and yes maybe a moment of respect is needed, a quick pray for the family of the departed is all.
Those who want can get caught in in the sympathy longer but the battle is constantly raging on all around.
God calls a few to be there and support the family the rest of us are just rubberneckers tieing up traffic on roadway looking on the scene instead of focused on the road ahead of us.
