It could happen in a matter of months, says Martin Mlynczak of NASAs Langley Research Center. ________________
The sun is entering one of the deepest Solar Minima of the Space Age, wrote Dr Tony Phillips just six weeks ago, on 27 Sep 2018.
Sunspots have been absent for most of 2018 and Earths upper atmosphere is responding, says Phillips, editor of spaceweather.com.
Data from NASAs TIMED satellite show that the thermosphere (the uppermost layer of air around our planet) is cooling and shrinking, literally decreasing the radius of the atmosphere.
To help track the latest developments, Martin Mlynczak of NASAs Langley Research Center and his colleagues recently introduced the Thermosphere Climate Index.
The Thermosphere Climate Index (TCI) tells how much heat nitric oxide (NO) molecules are dumping into space. During Solar Maximum, TCI is high (meaning Hot); during Solar Minimum, it is low (meaning Cold).
Right now, it is very low indeed
10 times smaller than we see during more active phases of the solar cycle, says Mlynczak

The snow on the ground means it’s time to pull the sleds out and start getting ready for the season.
No the kind of cold hes talking about is called a mini ice age. Last one was in the 1700s. Think Washington crossing the Delaware...it was frozen over
Climate does change but it is influenced by the sun more than anything
Read about the Maunder Minimum
“When whole nations are starving because of global cooling, what will the liberal wackos say then? “
Same here in the SW Suburbs outside Shitcago. BRRRRRR!!!
Exactly. Let libs live through the cold without anything produced by their enemy - big oil.
Ping.
13 in east central WI.
Near record lows in Iowa for this time of year.
One of my kids actually has some expertise in the field. He spent a couple years in Flight Operations working with a solar observatory satellite at NASA.
He told me the solar minimum thing was going to be an issue. It’s a naturally recurring cycle. Man has absolutely nothing to do with it.
He’s still at NASA but working on a different mission now.
They will blame global extreme temperature swings on CO2, the same as they claimed in the 1970s.
Hot, cold, windy, rainy, snowy, calm, it doesn't matter, it's our fault, and they want our tax money {carbon tax} to make it fair.
The left is about one thing...COMMUNISM, they want our money and they want the power to direct every aspect of our lives.
PERIOD.
The whole climate change thing is their current excuse, when that fails, they have the lbgqtrslsmft gender thing, and after that 'nationalism' and on it goes.
“19 degrees here in SW Wisconsin”
7 degrees in Minneapolis this morning.
2 degrees last night in Tijeras NM
An especially chilly winter and steadily falling temperatures over the next few years might finally spark a revolution in modular thorium reactors and vertical farms, which depend on reliable, affordable energy. Widespread decentralization of energy can only be good for national survival, no matter what happens with the looming debt disaster from uncontrolled state and federal spending and borrowing.
Bring in more “refugees” and let them vote for those who rail against “global warming”!
Your son is the voice of reason. I wish the global warming fanatics would listen to that voice. We need to be preparing for shorter growing seasons and possible food shortages.
Whatever they say, they won’t blame it on sun spot activity of lack thereof. They will find a way to pin it to the activity by the people of the West.

Please note that in the 11 year solar cycle we are equivalent to 2007. Note also that we are 40 sun spot free days ahead of 2007 with 6 weeks left to go (and the current sunspot is almost insignificantly small.)
Then look at the next two years in the cycle (2008, 2009).
It is likely to be very cold for at least a couple years if the trend continues.
Of course the liberals will stuff their fingers in their ears, and stick their heads up their a$$e$ in order to avoid recognizing this.
We just had the shortest duration of time between last and first snow recorded. We have noted later spring and earlier fall. This is the first old style fall I have seen in some time but the colors were very short duration then the leaves were just GONE.
It has been a long time since we had a good snowy winter or even ice that I can do without.
Oklahoma mesonet does the best job of recording extremes for us. The 50s were as extreme as I remember. Our highest temps were mostly in the teens and 30s. We had a lot of snow in the 60s and late 70s and deep freezes but 2010 was very cold as well.
Weather used to be a safe topic.
For us it is an old car hood and the four wheeler.
