Republicans sue Arizona county recorders as US Senate election remains too close to call

The Republican parties in Yuma, Navajo, Apache, and Maricopa counties filed a lawsuit against all state recorders and the secretary of state late Wednesday, as the Arizona U.S. Senate race still hangs in the balance. What is the issue?

The groups are challenging how Arizona counties verify signatures on mail-in ballots that come into the polls on Election Day, according to a complaint obtained by the Arizona Republic.

Arizona’s U.S. Senate race has no declared winner because it is too close to call. Results following Tuesday’s election showed that Republican Martha McSally earned 49.4 percent of the vote and Democrat Kyrsten Sinema had 48.4 percent, with about 75 percent of precincts reporting. About 17,000 votes separated the two candidates, according to CNN.

The race could take days — possibly weeks — to call, according to the Republic. Results from are still pending from Maricopa County, the most populous in the state and one where Sinema has dominated.

A hearing is scheduled for Friday in Maricopa County Superior Court, Eric Spencer, elections director for the Secretary of State, told the Republic. Republicans are trying to get the hearing moved up to Thursday, according to Spencer.

Maricopa County Recorder Adrian Fontes and some other county recorders believe they can contact voters after Election Day. Voters are called to verify they signed the green envelope of the ballot, which is required by law. The lawsuit maintains that under state law, voters can be contacted only prior to Election Day. The lawsuit is asking for that process to be followed in all counties throughout the state.

They had better compare the signatures on the ballots with previous signatures. ANYBODY can answer the phone. Democrats trying to cheat McSally out of her hard earned Senate seat!

Good God... Afghanistan did better than this during their elections.

Maricopa County, the most populous in the state and one where Sinema has dominated.

Dominated? More like led by a couple percentage points.

I don’t remember hearing about crap like this until 2000 in Florida.

Here we are, in the era of smartphones and cloud computing, and we get election snafus more often than in the days of paper ballots.

This is SOP now. The dems must have paid consultants who are ready to tweak elections anywhere, any time.

The Constitution in Article 1, Section 5 provides that:

“Each House shall be the Judge of the Elections, Returns and Qualifications of its own Members”

The GOP should use that power to seat McSally if the Dems cheat in counting the returns.

McSally by 17,000 votes. Not sure when AZ has to certify by law.

Yes, but Afghanistan and Iraq had honest elections with in-person, same day voting and the clincher, they had to dip a finger into indelible ink to show they had voted. The Democrats would fight these voter security measures because it would suppress their sizable Dead vote.

Mail in ballots SHOULD NOT BE ACCEPTED AT POLLING PLACES AT ALL! This is the right move by the republican officials. Dems are pre-checking and getting people to sign absentees then dropping them off at the polling place with NO WAY to verify who signed the absentees. The point of absentee ballots is to let people who can’t show up on election day sign a legal document and SEND IT IN WITH A POSTMARK so that that signature can be verified against existing ones on the voter rolls. These jackhole democrat groups are dumping ballots off at polling places where people aren’t registered where the signatures aren’t even on file and without ANY way to tell who or what signed them. Absentees SHOULD NOT BE ACCEPTED without a postmark unless it’s sent from a ship at sea or something that can’t participate at the USPS and, therefore, get a postmark.

Maricopa County has always elected Republican candidates to state wide and federal offices. McSally ahead 17,000 votes. Still counting votes I believe. But there is a lawsuit that our new Dem recorder is trying to break the law and count votes that aren’t legal by state law. Its a mess. Not sure when AZ certifies. The AZ Secty of State would have to certify whoever is ahead at the time I would think unless the Courts get involved.

“PS-Adrian Fontes is a radical Leftist.”

Typical leftist modus operandi : it’s not important who votes, what’s important is who counts the votes.

Maricopa County (where this problem seems to stemming from) has Sinema up by 8,183 votes in that county. AZ Secretary of State has McSally up by 17,073 statewide. I’m not sure that the State numbers include Maricopa county because a couple of AZ counties kind of do their own thing regarding elections and don’t totally coordinate with the Sec. State.

It seems that across the state there are somewhere around 600k “early” ballots that have yet to be counted because they just got dropped off on election day.

If everything goes right out here we should have you an answer on this race by some time in June.

Oh! FWIW, Maricopa county seems to have 472k of that 600+k early ballots outstanding. They also show a little under a million ballots processed so that means (surprise, surprise!) that on election day something like 1/3 of the entire county voter base dropped off their “early” ballot.

Not that such a thing is weird or anything....

I’m glad the republicans are finally standing up top vote fraud.

They’ve laid down and taken it for far too long.

Here is the process. The large counties withhold their final tally until all other counties report and certify their tally. Then the large liberal democratic counties know how many votes/ballots need to be found with the right percentage of republican votes to democratic votes. this way the democrat will win with a small enough victory to not make it look too suspicious.

The Sate of Washington has perfected this process. The state law specifies elections within 1% must do a recount. Then the state specifies that after the second recount there cannot be another recount for any reason short of fraud. so Rossi won within the mandatory recount level and, after some ballots were found in a closet, he still won the recount by a small margin that also requires a second recount. Miracle of miracles more boxes of ballots were found and the democrat (forgot her name) won. Since no more recounts are allowed by her winning could not be challenged.

Since some of the precincts, after the second recount, were reporting 110% of voter turnout the Republican party sued. Lost in state court and in the state supreme count.

After the Al Gore-Bush debacle in Florida George Soros stated emphatically that the democratic party must begin to focus on the election of Secretary of state positions in all states. That is who certifies the election and they need to be in control.

It is a science. probably taught at Harvard.
