There is only so much we faithful, native Californians can take. How much beautiful weather is worth this leftist insanity, and/or before this leftism turns into liberty crushing authoritarianism? Just sayin...
The midterm elections have turned out as most observers expected, nationally, statewide, and in Sacramento. By historical standards, nationally, the Democrats underperformed and lost a number of high-profile races. There was no Blue Wavemore like a blue ripple.
However, California is another story, remaining as blue as can be, and headed right into insolvency. In the contest for governor, California voters chose Democratic politician Gavin Newsom over Republican businessman John Cox, who is not a politician.
California tries to tax people from other states who do not legally owe taxes to California.
There’s a whole section at their Board of Equalization that sends these fraudulent bills out of state with the expectation that around 20% of the recipients will pay up.
Like if you live in Virginia and you sell a tractor to someone in California the BoE will send you a bill for sales tax.
You don’t have to pay it but they’ll try anyway.
I left a long time ago and fled to (red at the time) Colorado. Now the Dems have infected Colorado.
[sigh]
Working on a new plan to leave Colorado. Florida, Texas and Wyoming are on the list. Since I am older, I would prefer a place with no income tax to retire to. Also would like a state that has enough population to support a CISO position that I can work for the last 10 to 15 years of my career. That almost knocks out WY.
Family is in north Florida and further up the coast in GA (Savannah area). No relatives in Texas but I like the hill country area and love boating / fishing as a pastime.
Thanks for posting this. It continues to give the gift for snarky posting by Freepers who hate CA for their own reasons.
Also it is fodder for thinking Americans to decide if they are going to give up on CA ever regaining political balance. The GOP and RNC put little $$ into CA, knowing that the Libs have a gang of power crazed people in Sacramento. This land of ‘fruits and nut’s’ created so much wealth in the past that the ‘takers’ came and got some. They now rule worse than a Chicago machine.
This is the land of John Wayne and Reagan and a hell of a lot of good people who are sad that Sacramento has gone Socialist. So to all the FR’s who love to dump on
CA go ahead if that helps you feel better about yourself. Me and my family are not giving up because this is our HOME.
There is only so much we faithful, native Californians can take.

You are a frog in the boiling pot. Get out while you can.
Ended up moving to Texas, outside Austin. We probably wouldn’t have moved there on our own, but our only kid moved there in 2016 and loves it. We’ve been out of California for almost 3 weeks, and so far really don’t miss it. Remind me next spring/summer when it gets hot here!
HA...near Austin? I’ve heard that’s the commie part of Texas....my (very conservative) brother and his wife plan to move there, tho. I’m working on a 5 year plan to get out of this place...not sure where yet...
“California taxes real estate sales. If you are leaving the state, the state requires the money not be paid to you until California extracts the state tax from the proceeds.”
Are you thinking of property taxes? If you sell your home, all property taxes must be paid up to date, regardless whether you leave the state or not. You are also required to pay any capital gains tax on the property but that doesn’t happen until you file your taxes.
Nothing like you stated happened to me when I left the state last year. I sold my house in June, paid my property taxes up to that date, then left in August.

Do not know. It loaded fine for me, but I am running an Linux system.
Haven't been in Austin proper to be able to tell. Mostly the northern edge of the city, along with Cedar Park and Leander. Hard to imagine it being anywhere near as liberal as the Bay Area in California. I guess to most Texans it is, At least our millennial kid didn't vote for Hillary in 2016.
Probably.
