What are the pros and cons of irradiation? This is something that I’m not ‘up’ on.

On Irradiation.

Pro: Old food doesn’t rot.
Con: Unrotten food may be older than it looks, and most states’ laws actually allow grocers to keep repackaging old food until its visibly rotten.
Secret: Most food is irradiated, these days. Even “organic.” If meat lasts longer, it’s not because irradiated, but because it hasn’t been repackaged just prior to going rotten.

Not only is that beef that expires in six days not necessarily six days fresher than the beef that expires today, but they both are probably several months old.
