Dozens of faculty and staff members at Eastern Kentucky University have sent a letter to the schools president in opposition to President Trump. The letter, with over 100 signatures, comes days before Trump is scheduled to hold a campaign rally on the universitys campus.
The faculty letter does not oppose the rally itself, but condemns Trump and the campaign he ran, saying it is against to the universitys values. It also raises concerns about disruption to student life from the rally.
We must object to this campaign which has consistently, openly, and unambiguously attacked the values of inquiry, learning, and free speech which lie at the heart of higher education and form the core mission of this University, the letter reads.
The faculty express concerns about Trump's approach to science, immigration, and civil rights, in addition to threatening rhetoric.
Their representatives have worked to silence and discredit opponents rather than entering into dialogue with them, while those same representatives have objectified and demonized countless minority and disenfranchised groups who have made easy targets for their exclusionary rhetoric, the letter reads.
A spokeswoman for the university told the Louisville Courier Journal that university president Michael Benson has corresponded with some faculty members about the letter, but declined to comment further.
The school urged calm in a statement: We understand this election season has been filled with a number of passionately debated issues, and we encourage our community to remain civil and respectful of differing political opinions in the discourse surrounding the rally."
Gerald Nachtwey, a faculty member who helped write the letter, told the Courier Journal that it was written after students said they were frightened and confused about the rally.
"Fundamentally we saw the audience for the letter as being the student body and people in the community in and around Richmond," Nachtwey said.
Trump will hold a rally at the schools Alumni Coliseum on Saturday, the first time a sitting president has visited the university. The Donald J. Trump for President campaign is renting the space, according to the universitys website.
I’m guessing they are concerned with their continued State funding...
Oh well.....
I’m guessing most of them are not originally from Kentucky.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Certainly they do not share the common culture of Kentucky;
they are supercilious leftists who want to show the ignorant natives how to live.
I hope their efforts actually help bring out the GOP vote in Kentucky. Their idiocy underscores how Kentucky needs to put its government back into the hands of the People instead of in the hands of ivory tower elitists.
***Im guessing they are ALL DUMBASSES!!***
DING DING DING...where is the like button????
I went to the story and followed the link within, and believe it or not... I see a couple signers from the Dept of Physics and Astronomy, one from Math Dept... a crap-ton from Dept of Appalachian Studies... another crap-ton from Psych and Soc... and a bunch of Librarians current and Emeritus.
This is the problem, these students will never be able to cope with life. This I am sorry to say is the next generation.
Wow...”dozens”...
GOOD ONE. Almost resulting in beverage all over my monitor, but good, nevertheless.
POTUS should have a meeting, just him and the frightened and confused students. No faculty, no DNC handlers, etc.
He should let them tell him why they are so scared and confused.
When one says it is because he is racist, he should ask that person to give examples of his racism. If one says it is because he doesn’t believe in free speech, he should ask them to give details. ETC.
Could be enlightening for the little snowflakes, IMHO.
Could be eye-opening.
They’re really going to flip when they see me walking down Eastern Bypass from the hotel to the Coliseum in broad daylight - with my red MAGA hat on!
If the military did this for President Trump, who would have more signatures. Which of these 2 groups make greater sacrifices for the USA. Just think about it.
If the police did this would they be closer to the teachers or th,military?
Of course they would sign a letter protesting a President who is trying against all odds to MAGA. That is what communists do.
The CPUSA has been in complete control of the left wing loonie democrat party for decades and simply hides behind their benign sounding “Progressive” label.
Government schools, from K-12 have been faithfully fulfilling the requirements of the communist manifesto since the late 1950s by providing an “endless conveyor belt of liberal indoctrinated minds” to be weaponized by self avowed communist professors.
“Aahhh Shaddap...”
Would be an interesting format.
