The Liberation Of The Republican Senate
Self | October 7, 2018 | Gerard Perry

Posted on 10/07/2018 5:22:39 PM PDT by OddLane

There are 2 huge reasons why Judge Kavanaugh is now Justice Kavanaugh. The first, the fact that Donald Trump is POTUS, is obvious. The second, which is less remarked upon, is that John McCain is no longer a member of the U.S. Senate.

We've all seen the impact McCain's departure has made on Lindsey Graham, but I think it has transformed the rest of the rest of the Republican Caucus as well. They no longer have the burden of a media darling, anti-Constitution, anti-conservative wrecker who monopolizes attention that can be devoted to achieving conservative goals.

In Pat Buchanan's latest book, he discusses the 2 SCOTUS nominations of President Nixon which went down in flames, that of Carswell and Haynesworth, the 2 Southern judges rejected by the U.S. Senate. At that time there were 15 Republican senators in the liberal wing of their caucus.

During the next session of Congress, how many Never Trump/anti-Trumpers will we be left with? Even assuming a Rockefeller Republican like Hugin wins in New Jersey, we'll have Ben Sasse and Murkowski-until we can get rid of her in 2 years. So one-fifth of the force these people had during their high-water mark in the late '60s.

Not enough to derail a SC nomination, and not enough to thwart President Trump's agenda. The RINOs that remain no longer have their leader, their inspiration, to guide them. The wind is out of their sails.

The tide is turning.

That or twisted their arms to the point they were about to snap off at the shoulder. Either way, he closed the deal.

Flake, Corker, Hatch, Heller, Alexander, Graham, McCain, Murkowsky, Hoeven, Rubio, Tillis, Burr, Lankford, Gardner, Cornyn, Cochran, Collins, Sasse, Kennedy, Shelby, Ernst, Blunt, McConnell, Wicker, Portman, Isakson, Johnson, Toomey, Rounds, Thune, Gaines, Barasso and Enzi are all Bush League Republicans hell bent of making Americas into North Mexico.
If they had been on the side of the citizens and the rule of law we would not have needed Trump.
We would already have a wall and enforcement.
The GOP would only allow US to vote for amnesty candidates since the last amnesty until Trump broke through the Bush Blockade at the RNC.
Flake, Hatch and Corker are quitting.
McCain is dead.
Flake will be replaced by McSallycain.
Hatch replaced by Mittwit Romney.
The only bright spot is Marsha Blackburn replacing Corker.

We have just 4-5 Senators that side with the citizens and the rule of law.

We MUST do better.

Before you go crazy over Murkowski, stop and get some facts:

She votes with Trump 83% of the time. She got suckered by a fake story that many people had a hard time with and screwed up on Kavanaugh, but she also did the right thing by voting present so Daines could attend his daughters wedding. I'm not a fan but she's not Miz Satan, either.

Let's just hope someone does primary her who has a decent chance of winning, like Sarah Palin. The last jack-wagon challenger lost of a freakin' write-in vote, which tells you something about what a great candidate he was.

I agree. That might pose a problem. On the other hand, I do think that McConnell can rein him in.

Raw percentages are useless for a proper assessment. You have to look at critical votes, and Murkowski cannot be counted on for support. She is a completely corrupt politician and will only vote for those issues that benefit her.

Very few Never Trumpers had to stand for election this year. But, all of them in the Senate must do so in the next two election cycles. We need to send them packing in the primaries, and replace them with Conservatives who are willing to stand up to the twits that we have seen on TV this week.

Ben Sasse is no liberal. Ben Sasse has one of the best records in the Senate.

she did not vote “present”, she voted opposite of Daines “aye” - inother words she voted NO, but since she claimed to pair her vote with his that equates to present.

She actually voted NO, but since Daines was gone she lucked out and is able to twist her NO into “present”. Bothers me people sugar coat her action of voting opposite “Aye”.

I couldn’t entirely agree with that.... At best (worst?) he runs neck and neck with Sen. Ted Kennedy!

I’m hoping - the Dems keep trying to cheer lead the mobs, but I sense a bit of demoralization in them after expending so much only to have it blow up in their faces.

The tide is turning.

Thank you for posting. You are a great American, a patriot and a thinker!

I hope you are right that the tide is turning, but I have a question. McCain is gone, yes, but his constituency in Arizona is alive and well. The people of AZ are not unaware of what he had been doing; they liked it and want it again. They WILL have it again! If your point is that McCain had some influential power over Graham and the like, then I understand and take your point, but I ask, will not some other rise to take his place? Any anti-Trump Republican will be lionized in the media exactly as McCain was eventually becoming exactly what he was in exactly the same way and for the same reasons.

He would have been a complete and utter disaster if he had remained in the Senate. He was the single most destructive force in that body over the past 3 decades.

He was the organizer of the GOP's RINOs. He would have been a disaster to Trump getting anything done.

McVain’s replacement is Romney. Utah blew its chance to primary him.

Romney may try, but he’ll always be McCain light. He doesn’t have the war record to hide behind, and his Mormon religion is a huge political liability.

So glad McCain is gone.
